NASCAR Touring Most Popular Drivers Announced

Posted by Wayne G. Barber Photos Wayne G. Barber Collection

Congratulations to the 34,000 who took the time to vote and to all the 2015 recipients.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After nearly 34,000 votes were cast around the world for NASCAR regional touring series’ 2015 Most Popular Driver Awards, seven drivers earned the ultimate honor from fans – including four rookie drivers and a pair of repeat winners.

The Most Popular Driver Award winners for 2015 are:
• Rico Abreu (St. Helena, Calif.), NASCAR K&N Pro Series East
• Nicole Behar (Spokane, Wash.), NASCAR K&N Pro Series West
• Jason Hathaway (St. Thomas, Ont.), NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1
• Rodrigo Marban (Mexico City), NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series
• Alon Day (Ashdod, Israel), NASCAR Whelen Euro Series
• Melissa Fifield (Wakefield, N.H.), NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour
• Trey Hutchens (Lexington, N.C.), NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour
Underscoring the exciting young talent entering NASCAR’s ranks, award winners Abreu, Behar, Day and Hutchens are all in their first full season of NASCAR touring series competition, with Hutchens also earning the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
Both Fifield and Marban won the Most Popular Driver Award for their series last year, with Fifield making history as the first female to win the award for the tour.
Marban of the NASCAR Mexico Series garnered more votes than any other driver in 2015, just ahead of NASCAR Next drivers Behar and Abreu. Behar dethroned 2014 Most Popular Driver Brandon McReynolds, while Abreu earned the award in his first year in stock cars after transitioning from a successful open-wheel career.
The closest race was in the Canadian Tire Series where championship runner-up Hathaway edged Alex Tagliani by just 104 votes. It is the second year in a row in which Tagliani missed out on the top spot by a slim margin. Last year, he was beaten by JR Fitzpatrick by just 48 votes.
Similarly, Fifield beat Preece for the Whelen Modified Tour award by 110 votes. Hutchens collected more than 40 percent of the Whelen Southern Modified Tour vote to top tour champion Andy Seuss, a three-time winner of the award.
Day won three of the final four races of the Whelen Euro Series season to finish as runner-up in the championship standings in his first year in the series.
The Most Popular Driver Award winners will be recognized as part of the NASCAR Touring Series Awards on Dec. 12 in the Charlotte (North Carolina) Convention Center at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.Source: NASCAR Intergrated Marketing Media Release

Jeff Gordon walks away on cloud nine, even without title

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

HOMESTEAD, Fla. –
There were smiles and there were tears, but there was no storybook ending for Jeff Gordon.
The 44-year-old will retire after 797 races, 93 wins and four championships. An incredible first-ballot Hall of Fame career. But there will be no fifth championship as a send-off into the next phase of his career as a broadcaster and more frequent attendee of kids’ birthday parties and soccer games.
That last page proved too fantastical to come true even in what has been a storybook finish to his career on Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
In finishing sixth, Gordon did not leave a champion but he left with grace.
"I’m a little disappointed; I’ll be honest," Gordon said when the race ended. "When the sun went down, we were missing a little something … just didn’t have something. ... It’s a happy, happy, good day. I wanted to win but we’re still going to celebrate.”
He knew when it was time to go, knew even a few years ago but continued to race and thrived under the urging of friends and family and his team owner Rick Hendrick. In displaying a self-awareness rare in ultra-successful athletes, he left on his own terms, and awash in respect and praise from fans and peers who surrounded his No. 24 Chevrolet before the race.
This was no John Elway ending, winning a championship and an MVP award in his final game, as the Denver Broncos quarterback did in winning Super Bowl XXXIII. But this was no Derek Jeter slow fade, not in any way.
Gordon qualified for the Chase for the Sprint Cup on points after not earning a win in the 26-race regular season, but advanced through two rounds to force he and Hendrick to dare believe this sort of ending was possible. For those who have been close to Gordon as he rose from California-via-Indiana sprint car dervish to template for modern drivers – NASCAR, IndyCar, the lot - this dash for a final title may have been no surprise. But for the cynical outside world, where fairytale endings are quashed, this should not have happened.
It seemed more destined to happen when Gordon won for the ninth time at Martinsville Speedway in the first race of the third round of this Chase, benefitting from Matt Kenseth’s punt of race-leading Joey Logano to earn an automatic berth in the one-off final here.
But on Sunday, reality. And in this case, not a bad reality, despite the initial disappointment.
Jeff Gordon didn’t give his fans one more championship. But he gave them one more memory, and an exit worthy of his career. Source: Brant James, USA TODAY Sports

Chris Buescher Brings Home Roush Fenway's 5th XFINITY Championship

Posted by Wayne G. Barber
Chris Buescher ran to an 11th-place finish in Saturday's season finale to bring home the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series Championship. Buescher led the championship point standings for the final 24 races of the season. The championship marked the fifth time a Roush Fenway Racing driver has hoisted the XFINITY Series trophy and the third time in the past five seasons. It also marked Jack Roush's eighth NASCAR title.
Roush/Fenway Photo
"I'm blessed to be here," said Buescher. "It is so cool to be able to pull it off. It's so nice to have everybody out here to support us and be with us for this accomplishment. This is what we have been fighting for since February and Daytona and these guys have done such a great job and stuck in there with us all year," added Buescher. "It's a huge accomplishment for our team."
Buescher becomes the third driver to power the famed #60 Roush Fenway Ford to the XFINITY Series title, joining fellow champions Greg Biffle (2002) and Carl Edwards (2007). Adding to the rich legacy of the No. 60, Buescher was the fourth Roush Fenway driver to drive the iconic #60 Ford to victory lane in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. Mark Martin drove the #60 to victory lane 39 times and led almost 7,000 laps in the car, in addition to Biffle and Edwards' championships in the car.
"Chris was on his game this year," said team owner Jack Roush. "His crew chief Scott Graves was on his game as well. They managed to win two races and they didn't give up points on days when they weren't at their best."
Most recently Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won back-to-back XFINITY series titles for Roush Fenway in 2011 and 2012 and the No. 60 Ford brought home the owner's championship in 2011.
Buescher, in only his second season of full-time NASCAR racing, adds to his list of accomplishments that includes becoming the youngest driver to ever win an ARCA title in 2012. Buescher scored his first NASCAR win last season at Mid-Ohio and followed up his rookie-year performance with wins at Iowa and Dover this season en route to the championship. On the season Buescher never ranked lower than third in the driver championship standings, the Prosper, Texas native finished the season with zero DNFs (Did Not Finish). He did has not finished outside of the top-20 in any of the 33 races on the season, completing 99.9 percent of the laps during the 2015 campaign, while leading a total of 263 laps.Source: Media Press Release (Roush Fenway Racing)(11-23-2015)

Rowan Pennink, Michael Bennett, Stephen Kopcik, Al Saunders, Frank L’Etoile, And Devin O’Connell Honored As 2015 Stafford Speedway Track Champions

Posted by Wayne G. Barber
(Stafford Springs, CT)---Stafford Motor Speedway welcomed a guest list of nearly 500 people consisting of teams, drivers, sponsors, and employees this past Friday night, November 20 at Maneely’s in South Windsor to officially honor Rowan Pennink, Michael Bennett, Stephen Kopcik, Al Saunders, Frank L’Etoile, And Devin O’Connell as the 2015 Stafford Motor Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track champions.
With Stafford Motor Speedway broadcasters Darren Ayotte and Matt Buckler serving as the Masters of Ceremony, the 46th annual Stafford Motor Speedway NASCAR Champions Awards Ceremony not only honored the six track champions, they also recognized the top-15 points finishers from the SK Modified®, Late Model, SK Light, Limited Late Model, DARE Stock, and U.S. Legend Cars divisions.  Special awards that were presented during the evening’s festivities were Most Popular Driver Awards, SPAFCO Race Chassis & Parts Rookie of the Year, R.A.D. Automachine and T/A Engines Rookie of the Year, R.A.D. Automachine DARE Stock Rookie of the Year, and the UNOH Youth Achievement Award.
The 2015 SK Modified® season saw Rowan Pennink continue a hot streak that began with his victory in the 2014 NAPA SK 5k.  Including that SK 5k victory, Pennink scored 5 wins in the final 10 races of the year and he and the #99 Van Wickle NAPA Auto Supply team served notice right out of the gate that they would be contenders in 2015 as they won the season opening NAPA Spring Sizzler feature.  Pennink went on to score 5 more wins for a total of 6 to go along with 17 top-5 and 19 top-10 finishes this season.  Pennink’s average finish for the season was 4.5 and he claimed the track title by a 10 point margin over Ryan Preece.
The 2015 Late Model season saw hometown driver Michael Bennett outlast the field to take home his second career track championship at Stafford Motor Speedway.  Bennett won the 2005 Limited Late Model track championship, and much like Rowan Pennink, he and the #16 Mastiff Armory team served notice to everyone that they were going to be a force to be reckoned with in 2015 as they won the season opening NAPA Spring Sizzler feature event.  Bennett never finished outside the top-10 this season and along with scoring 7 wins this year, Bennett finished on the podium in 17 of 22 races.  His final numbers for the 2015 season were 7 wins, 18 top-5, and 22 top-10 finishes with a blistering average finish of 3.3.  Bennett clinched the championship with one race still to go and the final margin for the 2015 season was 60 points back to second place Josh Wood.
The race for the SK Light championship was a see-saw affair for much of the 2015 season between D.J. Burnham and Stephen Kopcik.  Burnham was strong out of the gate and he set the early pace in the championship fight with 6 podium finishes in the first 7 races.  But Kopcik and the #31 N.J.K. Automotive team were never far behind and after they scored what turned out to be their only victory of the 2015 season on July 17, they never finished outside the top-5 for the remainder of the 2015 season and were able to leapfrog Burnham in the standings and take home the championship by a 20 point margin.  Kopcik posted 1 win, 18 top-5, and 19 top-10 finishes this season with an average finish of 5.8.
The race for the 2015 Limited Late Model track championship saw hometown driver Al Saunders lead the field wire to wire as he won the season opening NAPA Spring Sizzler feature event and led the points standings for the entire season.  Saunders, along with his twin brother Cliff, who won the 2012 DARE Stock track championship, join Ted and Mike Christopher as the only pair of brothers to have won track championships at Stafford.  Not only did Saunders lead the division with 5 wins this year, he was a model of consistency.  With the exception of a 12th place finish on August 14th, Saunders didn’t finish lower than 7th all season long and he took the track title by a 22 point margin over 2014 Limited Late Model champion Andrew Hayes.  For the season, Saunders posted 5 wins, 18 top-5, and 21 top-10 finishes and his average finish for the season was 3.5.
In the DARE Stock division, Frank L’Etoile, Jr. took home his second consecutive track championship, but the road to repeating was anything but easy.  L’Etoile didn’t find himself in the point lead until the completion of the June 19th event as both Dan Dembek and Tyler Trott had taken turns in the number one position.  But once L’Etoile and the #33 Zeke’s Pump Service team found themselves at the front of the standings, they stayed there for the remainder of the season with perhaps the most consistent season ever seen at Stafford.  L’Etoile’s worst finish all year long was a 7th place finish on August 28 and he finished in the top-5 in all but that one race.  L’Etoile finished the year with 3 wins, 21 top-5, and 22 top-10 finishes with an average finish of 3.1.
In the U.S. Legend Cars division, it was a year to remember for Devin O’Connell and the #43 Chatham Highlander Motel team.  They finished all but 2 races in the top-5 and they led the division with 8 wins to go along with 20 top-5 and 22 top-10 finishes with an average finish of 2.5.  O’Connell was neck and neck with the DiMatteo brothers for much of the first half of the season, but O’Connell swept the month of June and that 4-race win streak saw him pull away from the pack in the race for the championship.  Such was O’Connell’s dominance that he wrapped up the championship race with 2 races to go.  O’Connell continued his winning ways as he would go on to win both the oval and road course national championships for the U.S. Legend Cars.
The SPAFCO Race Chassis and Parts Rookie of the Year awards were presented to Tyler Hines from the SK Modified® division and Michael Wray from the Late Model division.  Taking home R.A.D. Automachine and T/A Engines Rookie of the Year honors were Daniel Wesson in the SK Light division and David Comeau in the Limited Late Model division, and taking home R.A.D. Automachine Rookie of the Year honors was Zack Robinson in the DARE Stock division.  The awards will be worth an $1,100.00 bonus to Hines and Wray from SPAFCO, $1,000 bonuses each to Wesson and Comeau from R.A.D. Automachine and T/A Engines, and a $500 bonus to Robinson from R.A.D. Automachine.  Each Rookie of the Year bonus will be paid out in $100.00 weekly increments to each driver as they attend events during the 2016 season.
The winners of the Most Popular Driver Awards were Ronnie Williams in the SK Modified® division, Tom Butler in the Late Model division, Nick Salva from the SK Light division, David Comeau from the Limited Late Model division, Doug Marcello Rufrano in the DARE Stock division, and Teddy Hodgdon in the U.S. Legend Cars division.  The Most Popular Driver Awards are voted on by the fans who attend Stafford Motor Speedway race events and fill out the ballots found in the track’s weekly PitStopper Magazine.
The UNOH Youth Achievement award was won by SK Light Modified driver Stephen Kopcik.  The UNOH Youth Achievement Award is a program that is open to all drivers at Stafford between the ages of 14-17.  The eligible driver who scored the most track points from their best 14 finishes this season won a $500 cash award from UNOH as well as a $500 scholarship award from UNOH.  Source: Scott Running Stafford Speedway Media Press Release

Payea previously competed on the ACT Tour for six seasons beginning in 2005. He was the ACT Rookie of the Year in 2005 and finished runner-up in points for three straight years from 2007-2009, losing the 2008 championship to Patrick Laperle by a single point. Payea also won five Tour events, including two victories in the Merchants Bank 150 at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road as well as wins at White Mountain Motorsports Park, Waterford Speedbowl, and Airborne Park Speedway.

He then competed weekly at Thunder Road from 2011 through 2013, finishing in the top-10 in points each year. Payea retired from racing at the end of the 2013 season to spend more time with his family, but after two seasons on the sidelines, he jumped at the unexpected chance to return.

“I went to a few races to watch with my son, and I found out that there’s no middle ground for me,” Payea said in an RPM Motorsports press release. “I either wanted to be out there on the track or not there at all, so I didn’t go too often. In the back of my mind I was hoping I would get another shot, but I never expected to have a car owner like Rick call me and want me to drive.”
Payea joins a team which has won eight ACT Tour Championships and nearly 40 ACT Late Model races with drivers including Jean-Paul Cyr, Brian Hoar, Nick Sweet, and Austin Theriault. RPM Motorsports recently won the final two races of the 2015 ACT season at Airborne Park Speedway and Thompson Speedway with Brian Hoar at the controls. But Hoar announced in Victory Lane at Thompson that he was stepping away from racing to spend more time with his own family, creating the opportunity for Payea to return to the driver’s seat.

“The announcement of Rick Paya and his RPM team bringing Scott Payea back to the 2016 ACT Tour can prove to be a game-changer,” ACT President Tom Curley said. “We know the kind of credentials that the RPM team brings to any organization, and Scott certainly proved what an outstanding racer he had become before he made the decision to spend some time with his young family. That decision alone shows the character of Scott Payea. This team will be strong beginning with our opening event at Lee USA Speedway in April. Teams that love to compete, like early contenders Wayne Helliwell Jr. and Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., will be happy to have this kind of quality competition joining us on the 2016 ACT campaign.”

Help Wanted ? Experienced Modified Drivers Available !

Posted By Wayne G. Barber and Photos from the Wayne G. Barber collection

Silly Season in the NASCAR Whelen Modified North Series continues.

So far in the off season #6 TS/Haulers East/West Marine team owned by Ed Partridge and driven by Ryan Preece is tentatively out unless Preece wants to come back ?

The #22 Canto Paving-Milton Caterpillar with three different drivers in 2015 Barrette, Rocco, Christopher and crew chief Brad Lafontaine claims that he has had enough.

Now on November 18th Woody Pitkat received a call that the Buzz Chew/Elbow East Chevrolet with Ron Ste-Marie has decided to go dirt track racing in 2016.

Pitkat was a repeat guest on our Race Chatter broadcast on November 9th and was asked the question of his potential rides in the 2016 racing season and confirmed his quest to repeat at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in the Stan Mertz #6 SK Mod against Rocco,Preece,Malone,McDermott,Berndt and others.

The also stated that he should be able to repeat in his quest for back to back championships in the #42 Valenti Modified Racing Series after winning with missing a race at Monadnock with the duel schedule last season.

When asked about the SK Mod ride Friday nights at Stafford for 23 weeks Pitkat was kind of hesitant and said that its a long summer schedule and did not want to spread himself to thin and would be happy with a lighter schedule there.

The one series Pitkat perked up on was the Tri-Track Modified Series and the big pay-outs and was looking forward to racing in that competition again in 2016. Seekonk and Monadnock are already on board for 2016.
I left a message on Pitkats voice mail to add any validation to the rumors of him taking the #79 Hillbilly Racing ride or the potential #3 Ole Blue seat which I am being bombarded with e-mails on and will not post the seat, if any until Pitkat confirms.

I know one thing that this short list of available modified drivers is Hall of Fame All-Star caliber.

KEVIN HARVICK Aggressively Defending At Homestead-Miami

    Posted by Wayne G. Barber
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Nov. 17, 2015)The best way for Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 4 Budweiser/Jimmy John’s Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), to defend his 2014 Sprint Cup Series championship is to win his second consecutive race at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway in Sunday’s 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season finale.
The reigning Sprint Cup Series champion secured his title with a come-from-behind win in the final Sprint Cup race of 2014 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Harvick came to pit road for four tires and fuel on lap 249, while several competitors opted for a two-tire strategy that put Harvick back in the 12th position for the lap 252 restart of the 267-lap event.
Harvick raced his way from 12th to seventh before the caution flag waved again on lap 254. When the field went back to green at lap 258, he quickly raced up to second and took the lead with just seven laps remaining. The final caution of the race came on lap 261, which set up the field for a three-lap dash to the finish. Harvick held off fellow Championship Round competitor Ryan Newman by 0.500 of a second to score the win and secure the 2014 Sprint Cup Series championship.
In 2015, Harvick is the only driver from the 2014 Championship Round to return to the “championship four” in 2015. He is joined by Championship Round newcomers Jeff Gordon, Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch for the winner-take-all final race.
While he faces stiff competition in the Championship Round, Harvick has reason for optimism as he leads the Sprint Cup Series with 12 second-place finishes, 22 top-five finishes , 27 top-10s, 2,248 laps led with an average finish of 8.9.
In 14-career Sprint Cup starts at Homestead-Miami, Harvick’s 7.6 average finish is highest among the remaining competitors. His 102.5 driver rating at Homestead-Miami since 2005 ranks second of the four Championship competitors, trailing only Truex Jr.’s 106.6.
Harvick has finished best among the remaining competitors in 17 of the 35 Sprint Cup races in 2015, Kyle Busch has finishes highest in eight races and both Gordon and Truex Jr. have each finished highest in five races.
The defending Sprint Cup champion leads several other statistical categories: 118.9 driver rating, 48 bonus points, 1,370 fastest laps run, 35.6 percent of fastest laps run, 22.1 percent of laps led, 2,682.61 miles led, 9,245 laps in the top-15, 91.0 percent of laps in the top-15 and average running position of 7.264.
Harvick is the first driver to lead 2,000 laps in consecutive seasons since Jeff Gordon in 1995 and 1996. The last three drivers to lead more than 2,000 laps in a single season have all gone on to win the Sprint Cup championship. Jeff Gordon led 2,320 laps in 2001, Jimmie Johnson led 2,238 laps in 2009, and Harvick led 2,137 laps in 2014.
While consistency has been key for Harvick throughout the season, his appearance in the Eliminator Round came anything but easily. The defending series champion raced his way from the Challenger Round to the Contender Round with a dominant performance in a “must-win” situation at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. He fought off elimination by leading 355 of 400 laps at Dover en route to scoring his first Chase win of the season.
In the Contender Round, Harvick finished second at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, 16th at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City and 15th at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway to advance to the Eliminator Round.
The defending Sprint Cup champion punched his ticket to the Championship race at Homestead by way of points scored in the Eliminator Round. Harvick finished eighth at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, third at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth and second last weekend in the rain-delayed and rain-shortened race at Phoenix International Raceway. His goals this weekend at Homestead-Miami is to defend his 2014 Sprint Cup championship with his second consecutive win in the final race of the season.

KEVIN HARVICK, Driver of the No. 4 Budweiser/Jimmy John’s Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing:
How does it feel to be returning to the Championship Round of the Chase?
“Well, I feel like we’ve overcome a lot of things throughout the Chase. We’ve survived and advanced. It hasn’t been 100 percent pretty from one end to the other, but I think as you look at the Chase, it’s been championship material and that’s proven by making it to the championship race. I’m just really proud of everybody and we’re going to go down there and just do like we’ve done and race as hard as we can.”
Is it harder to win in the current Chase format versus the old Chase format?

“I don’t know I never won one in the old Chase so I don’t have any reference. There were just so many different scenarios for us last year as we won the championship. You come in with a new team and new environment that I feel like was a better fit for everything that we had going on from a performance stand point and throughout the year and the way that things went. I can honestly tell you that last year if we wouldn’t have won the championship I would have felt disappointed the way that the cars ran throughout the year and the way that things went. It’s not to say that you wouldn’t be disappointed if you didn’t win this year, but I feel like we’ve challenged and been competitive and done the things that we need to do to stay in the hunt. But, never having done it before last year you just never had been in that situation to feel like we should win a championship because we have performed so well.  It’s never been like that for me before throughout the whole year.  I think as you look at the previous years before last year it would be a hard comparison, but it’s definitely more mentally challenging than I’ve ever been in a championship hunt before. Just for the fact of the pressure that it puts on everybody. From getting in the Chase and once you win a race it kind of relieves that pressure until you get to race 27 at Chicago. Then all of a sudden the pressure doubles, triples, whatever number you want to put on it because you know that you have to perform that day at that moment. You have three weeks to get it done in order to get to the next round. There is so much more pressure just because there is so much more on the line on a daily, weekly, weekend format like we have. You’ve got to make it happen and that’s a lot of pressure for everybody to perform under.  Sometimes it brings out the best in people" Source : Ryan Barry

Championship NASCAR Modified Teams Make the Switch to LFR Chassis

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (November 18, 2015) – Tinio Racing (#44 Bobby Santos)and Eddie Harvey,#11(Andy Seuss) two championship NASCAR Modified teams, are set to switch to LFR Chassis for the 2016 racing season. The two teams, who have previously found success on the track, are looking to take their programs to the next level with LFR Chassis.
“Having top championship caliber teams such as Tinio and Eddie Harvey coming on board for 2016 is a huge compliment to our company and all we have going on,” said Rob Fuller, President of LFR Chassis. “We have really raised the bar on the engineering and design, as well as the customer service side of this division. These guys have been racing with the same equipment and basic designs for some time now, and when they took the time to look at what we have developed and the technical data they will have access to, along with the open tests we provide, I really believe the switch makes sense to them. They are not buying a car, they are buying into a company and its concept.”
Tinio Racing, owned by Sully Tinio and family, has been on the modified racing season for a while now and are planning to go into their third full-time year. The team won multiple races from 2012 to 2014, but 2015 saw the team go winless, prompting them to make a change during the off-season that will get them back into Victory Lane.
“The move to LFR Chassis really happened for a number of reasons,” said Lawney Tinio, Team Manager. “One was just seeing Coby and the No. 2 team run so well last season. We were also looking for someone who was looking to work with our race team and LFR was making a great push for us. Then after some further research and a trip to the shop to see what technology they had, the switch became a no-brainer. We’re really looking for this change to help bring us back to being a top contending team and pick up a couple of wins and possibly a championship next year.”
Tinio Racing’s driver Bobby Santos, the 2010 NWMT Champion, has worked with the team since 2012. Having collected eight victories with Tinio Racing and piloted an LFR Chassis twice before, Santos feels confident about the upcoming switch.
“We’ve seen what LFR Chassis has done in a short amount of time, and it’s really just such a great program,” explained Santos. “Tinio Racing isn’t a team that likes to sit still, so I think this change will help us keep moving forward. Having ran an LFR Chassis before I think the transition will go really smoothly and I expect us to be back to winning and be contenders for the championship next year.”
Eddie Harvey and his driver, Andy Seuss, are regular competitors in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (NWSMT), and also switching to LFR Chassis for the 2016 season. The partnership has previously had tons of success in the NWSMT, earning the multiple championships in the series. Two of those championships were back to back, as driver Andy Seuss secured both the 2014 and 2015 NWSMT honors.
“We really want to take our race program to the next level,” said Eddie Harvey, owner. “The competition is closing in on us and we want to try something new to get ahead again. I’ve been friends with Phil Moran and Rob Fuller for a while now, so switching to LFR Chassis made sense. Hopefully this switch will bring us another championship!”

At A Glance: Putting a Bow on the 2015 Season That Was

    Posted by Wayne G. Barber

CONCORD, N.C. - Nov. 17, 2015 - The 2015 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season has officially drawn to a close. The historic season saw Donny Schatz add his name to the record books and join some of the most elite names in the history of motorsports.
Through 75 races, 2015 is a season no one will soon forget. These are the numbers that defined the year.
544 - The difference in points between championship winner Donny Schatz and second place finisher Shane Stewart. It is the biggest end-of-season points differential between the top-two drivers since Steve Kinser's 31-win season in 1992. In 2005 Kinser picked up his final series championship by a margin of 543 points over Jason Meyers.
204 - The total number of World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature wins Donny Schatz has won in his career. He is the third winningest driver in series history. Three-time series champion Sammy Swindell is ahead of Schatz with 294 wins.
178 - The streak of races Donny Schatz has without a DNF. The streak dates back to September 2013.
75 - The total number of completed features during the season. Events were run in 23 U.S. States and two Canadian provinces. There were 11 rain outs during the season with three events postponed due to rain.
31 - Donny Schatz's win total in 2015 tied him with Steve Kinser for the third-most single season series wins. Kinser accomplished the feat in 1992. The 'King of the Outlaws' continues to hold the record for the most single-season wins (46 in 1987) and second most single-season wins (36 in 1991).
22 - The number of different drivers who won a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature during the 2015 season. The total continues a now four year trend for the series with the total number of different winners over 20. The last time there were fewer than 20 different winners was 2011 when there were 17 different winners.
7 - The number of championships Donny Schatz now has following his historic season. He joins motorsports greats like Richard Petty (NASCAR), Dale Earnhardt (NASCAR), Michael Schumacher (F1) and Jeremy McGrath (AMA) with seven championships in their respective racing series.
3 - Stewart Friesen, Greg Wilson and Dusty Zomer became first-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series winners in 2015. Friesen had the added distinction of being just the second-ever Canadian born driver to win a series event and the first ever to win on Canadian soil.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action and kicks off the 2016 season at DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park February 12 to 14, 2016. The full series schedule will be released during the Performance Racing Industry show on Thursday, December 10. Source:
