Garrett Hall wins the Oxford 100!

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

Oxford, ME- The first Granite State Pro Stock Series race at Oxford Plains Speedway saw Locals Bobby Timmons of Windham, ME on the pole and Derek Kneeland of Sebago, ME on the outside.  At the start of the race Kneeland and Hall were in tight competition for the lead, until the middle of the race when Hall held the lead for much of the remaining laps.

In third place for much of the race and showing the patience of a veteran racer, fourteen-year-old Gabe Brown ran impressive race. Series regular and the current point leader Mike O’Sullivan of Springfield MA, was consistent all night and moved from thirteenth position to tenth by the end of the race. This granted him a provisional position in the Oxford 250 on Sunday. Former series champion Derek Griffith also ran consistently throughout the race starting eleventh and finishing seventh in the race.

By the halfway point of the race Bryan Kruczek of Newmarket, NH had taken over the second position. On lap 77 series regular Barry Gray of Belchertown, MA brought out the caution, leading to a restart, which gave Brown the opportunity to pass Kruczek. This gave Brown the chance to chase down the leader, unfortunately lap traffic spread out the field.  Hall solidified his lead on the field to take the checkers.

Friday September 8th & Saturday, September 9th The Granite State Pro Stock Series will be racing at Star Speedway, in Epping NH. for the Star Classic 100. For more information, follow The Granite State Pro Stock Series on Facebook or at www.gspss.net

Ted Christopher took down his fifth and second consecutive win of the 2017 season.

Posted by Wayne G. Barber &  Photo by Wayne G. Barber

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature, Glen Reen took the early lead from the pole with Ronnie Williams second, Keith Rocco third, Josh Wood fourth, and Dan Avery fifth.  Avery got around Wood to take fourth on lap-3 with Michael Gervais, Jr. taking fifth as Wood was slowly fading back outside the top-10.
Williams went to the lead on lap-5 with Rocco moving up to second as Reen fell back to third in line.  Avery was fourth and Matt Galko got around Gervais to take over fifth.
Avery got out of shape on lap-12 and he fell back to the rear of the field as Williams was still out front.  Rocco took the lead from Williams on lap-13 and the caution came out with 14 laps complete as Reen spun coming out of turn 4.
Rocco took the lead back under green with Christopher moving into second.  The caution came back out with 16 laps complete for a spin in turns 3+4 by Matt Galko.
Rocco and Christopher resumed their duel for the lead on the restart but it only lasted one lap before the caution came back out for a spin in turn 2 by Tom Bolles.
On the restart, Cam McDermott touched wheels with another car which sent him up and over the car in front of him and several cars got into the turn 3 wall to bring the caution back out before a lap could be completed.
Rocco took the lead with Christopher right on his bumper.  Christopher made a move to Rocco’s inside in turns 3+4 on lap-18 to move into the lead.  Todd Owen was up to third and he pulled alongside Rocco for second on lap-19.  Owen got clear on lap-21 and Tony Membrino, Jr. was now fourth with Williams in fifth.  Gervais spun coming out of turn 4 and Reen came to a stop on the frontstretch infield after taking an off track excursion to bring the caution out with 23 laps complete.
Christopher took the lead on the restart with Owen right on his back bumper.  Rocco was third with Membrino in fourth and Williams in fifth.  Owen was all over Christopher’s back bumper and he nearly made a pass coming out of turn 4 on lap-28 but he had to back out of his move which gave Rocco all the room he needed to take second from Owen.
With 10 laps to go, Christopher led Rocco, Owen, Membrino, Williams, Galko, Rowan Pennink, and Chase Dowling.  Owen went around Rocco to take over second on lap-33 and then Rocco’s car dropped off the pace and he limped back to pit road.
Christopher and Owen now had a comfortable margin back to Williams in third, who now had Dowling in fourth and Pennink in fifth behind him.  Christopher led Owen to the checkered flag to pick up his fifth win of the 2017 season and second consecutive.  Williams finished third with Dowling and Pennink rounding out the top-5.

Corliss Holds on for Third Win of Season on Jet Service/Accura Night

Corliss Holds on for Third Win of Season on Jet Service/Accura Night

Barre, Vt. – Hometown driver Jason Corliss scored his third Thunder Road Late Model win of the season in dramatic fashion at Jet Service Envelope/Accura Printing Night on Thursday, August 24. The number-thee point driver fended off fellow Barre competitor Cody Blake and South Burlington’s Trampas Demers in a three-car thriller to take his seventh career Late Model victory in the Thursday night finale.

Corliss appeared to have the race in hand after getting the jump on Milton’s Eric Chase following the second and final restart on lap-29 of the 50-lap event and pulling out to a big advantage. But Blake reeled him in after getting around Chase and began looking to Corliss’ outside in the closing laps.

Blake then pulled a crossover move exiting turn two with three laps remaining to get inside Corliss, and the leaders racing side-by-side allowed Demers to get into the mix. Coming off the final corner, Corliss was able to use the momentum of the outside groove to hang on for the win as the trio slid across the line under a blanket.

Blake’s runner-up finish was his fourth straight top-two result while Demers took third to claim his division-leading seventh podium spot of the season. Point leader Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg came in fourth to unofficially maintain his 31-point advantage over Demers after getting a better finish in the Maplewood Semi-Feature. Chase, Matt White, Christopher Pelkey, Darrell Morin, Marcel J. Gravel, and Kyle Pembroke completed the top-10.

Hinesburg’s Trevor Lyman scored his fourth win of the year in the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers. Lyman crossed the line a distant second to rookie Jaden Perry of Hardwick in the 40-lap feature, but inherited the win after both Jaden Perry and apparent fifth-place finisher Jamon Perry were disqualified for rear end infractions. It was Lyman’s ninth career victory in the division.

Point leader Jason Woodard of Waterbury Center assumed the second spot in the final rundown after crossing the line glued to Lyman’s rear bumper. Morrisville’s Dwayne Lanphear took third followed by Brendan Moodie, Mike Billado, Mark Barnier, Mike Martin, Streeter, Jason Pelkey, and Burt Spooner III. Woodard unofficially extended his margin over Moodie to 22 points with two point-counting events remaining.

Williamstown’s Tommy “Thunder Smith” captured his second Allen Lumber Street Stock win of the year and 31st of his career in their 25-lap feature. Smith took the lead from polesitter Scott Weston of Berlin on the opening lap and held of Fairfax’s Alan Maynard on a pair of late restarts for the victory.

Maynard earned the second spot while rookie Logan Powers of Middlesex finished third. Dean Switser Jr., Kelsea Woodard, Jamie Davis, Gary Mullen, Stephen Martin, Matthew Smith, and Kevin Streeter finished fourth through 10th. Hinesburg’s Cooper Bouchard unofficially saw his point lead shrink to just four markers over Davis and Maynard after being involved in a lap-18 incident for the second straight week.

Barre’s Tyler Pepin was a first-time winner in the Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warrior 20-lap feature. Pepin got inside Julian Gorman for the lead on lap six and survived a hard charge from fellow hometown driver Jeffrey Martin in the final circuits. East Hardwick’s Kevin Keene inherited the third spot after James Dopp was disqualified for a camber violation. Gorman, Benjamin Ashford, Frank Putney, Cole Smith, Eric Young, Ryan McCarthy, and Trevor Rossi also earned top-10 finishes.

Duane Provost Looking For Back to Back Limited Late Model Titles

Posted by Wayne G. Barber
(Stafford Springs, CT)---Stafford Speedway’s Limited Late Model division is in the midst of one of the tightest championship races in recent memory.  Jeremy Lavoie has led the standings for the majority of the 2017 season with defending track champion Duane Provost right on his heels.  Through the first 11 races of the season, the largest margin between first and second in the points standings has been 8 points, or 4 positions on the track.  For the past 6 races, the margin between Lavoie and Provost at the top of the standings has fluctuated between 6 and 8 points.  Provost won 2 races in a row at the start of June and with temperatures becoming cooler, Provost is looking to return to his winning form.
“Jeremy [Lavoie] has been consistent, I’ve been consistent, and Al [Saunders] is not too far behind us, so consistency has been the key this season,” said Provost.  “I usually go pretty strong at the beginning of the season and the end of the season when it’s a little cooler outside and mellow out in the middle, so we have to see if we can pick our performance back up towards the end of the season.  We need to finish ahead of Jeremy a little more than I have been for the last 6 races.  Lately it seems like one week I’ll finish one spot ahead of him and then the next week he’ll finish one spot in front of me.  We didn’t have as much bad luck this summer as we normally do so if I can run like I typically perform when its cooler out, I’m hoping that the next 6 races will side in my favor.”
The fact that Provost and Lavoie have been finishing within one position of each other for the past 5 weeks begins to paint a picture of just how competitive the race for the championship has been this season.  Provost is tied for the division lead with 2 wins and he has 10 top-5 finishes in 11 races thus far.  But as good as Provost has been, Lavoie has been just a bit better as he has scored top-5 finishes in all 11 races, including his first career Limited Late Model feature win back in May.  The lone blemish on Provost’s 2017 record is an 11th place finish back on May 12th, which was the second race of the season.  With Lavoie finishing 5th in that race and picking up 12 points on Provost, that race is making the difference in the race for the championship.
“I try not to focus on the bad finish,” said Provost.  “I know if we had a better finish that night we’d probably be leading the points right now.  We’ve had a few races where we probably should have finished better than we did but we have to learn from those mistakes and not worry about things you can’t control.”
With 6 races left on the 2017 schedule, Provost is focused on picking up his performance and staying out of trouble like he did in the most recent feature event on August 11.
“Our goal is to pick things up a little,” said Provost.  “With the rainout last weekend, we tore the whole front end apart and we went through each part and nut and bolt and replaced a few things that we felt needed replacing.   This is the part of the season when parts start to give up on you so you need to pay that much more attention for the car to be dependable.  For me, I’ve found that you just need to be patient and take advantage of any opportunities that present themselves out there.  For instance, a couple of weeks ago, I think it was when the 4 car went up in the air, I overcautiously drove through the grass.  I probably didn’t need to do that but it looked like he was going to come across my nose so I figured better to go through the grass and lose a spot or two rather than get into a wreck.  Plus that was the first lap of the race and there ended up being a caution so I was able to get caught back up to the field.  There’s still 6 races to go and we still have a lot of work to do.  Hopefully we can stay cool and be patient enough.”
While Provost wasn’t in the championship race for much of the 2016 season, he was in position to take advantage of a situation that arose when Al Saunders got caught up in an early race wreck in the final feature event of the season.  Now that he has been close to the championship lead all season long, he knows what it takes to win a championship and winning back to back championships would be feather in the cap of his racing career.
“It would be awesome to go back to back,” said Provost.  “Last year I won it right at the last race and only because Al had some bad luck, but you had to be in that position to capitalize if something happened and things went your way.  It would be great to win another championship and it would put a nice stamp on my ability to put a car together and go race it.  I started out racing DARE Stocks 13 years ago and I didn’t know what I was doing at all.  I was working harder on that DARE Stock than I do on the Limited now and we didn’t have the success that we’re enjoying right now.  But I think you have to go through that and put the time in to learn things so that you don’t make the same mistake twice.  I just won back to back races this year for the first time in my career so to win back to back championships would be something spectacular.  I’d like to thank my sponsors Facchini Law Firm, Team Link in Ludlow, and JollyJoeK.com and it would be great to win the championship for them as well.”
The tight race for the Limited Late Model championship returns to the track this Friday night, August 25, as part of the Back 2 SK®ool Blitz program.  All Kids 14 & Under will be admitted free (general admission) when wearing a team shirt or uniform to the track and there will also be a Kids Zone with prizes, games and bike raffles.  Tickets are priced at $17.50 for adult general admission, kids 6-14 are $5.00 and kids 5 & under are free.  Reserved seating is available for $20 for all ages.  All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax.  Stafford Motor Speedway offers plenty of free parking along with overnight parking available for self contained Recreational Vehicles.

Nocella Adds To Points Lead With Beech Ridge Victory

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Scarborough, ME.

Valenti Modified Racing Series points leader Anthony Nocella (Woburn,MA) continued his winning ways by taking down his 4th victory of the year Sat. 8/19.
Tony Ricci (Westbrook, ME) and Josh Cantara  (Saco,ME) wrestled the lead from each other for the first 47 laps until Nocella used a restart to overpower Ricci and drive to the victory.

In victory lane Nocella said "Pretty awesome car all day and this track has been pretty good to us for a long time now. All we did was make small adjustments throughout the day hoping they were the right adjustments with the fog coming in. We just wanted to stay up front and to be patient for a while. Those guys were real quick at the beginning. The restart with 30 to go I figured it was a good shot to go, if I couldn't take the lead I could just drop back in line but I was able to get by them and stretch out a short lead until the last yellow, but the car was good right to the end."

Runner up Troy Talman (Oxford,MA.) the Lee USA winner in July started mid-field and used a lap 15 caution to pit for adjustments. From that point on Talman gradually worked his way forward passing Mike Willis Jr. (Grantham,NH) for third place on lap 59 then caught and passed Ricci for the runner up spot on lap 70. His bid to catch Nocella came up 1.128 seconds short at the end of the 75 lap marathon.

A happy Talman said "Second time coming here, first time in a modified, couldn't be more happier. We had a great run. I have to thank all my sponsors and my family, they have been with me from the beginning. We started off mid pack and started too tight. We came in and made a really good adjustment but just came up a little to short. We used up our stuff coming through the field, but really happy. Congratulations to Anthony on win number 4, and I'm having a fun time with the M.R.S."

What was supposed to be a one race deal, early in the year between Tony Ricci, a 2006, two time winner with the VMRS and the Czarnecki #20 team looks to be a great combination as Ricci won his heat race and led the feature 3 different times for a total of 32 laps. Ricci held on to finish 3rd on the podium.

"This is only our third race back, I haven't raced these things (tour mod) since 2009 and these guys (Czarnicki's) haven't been racing and we missed it a little bit. I'm trying to figure this tire thing out so we can get it good at the end of the race. Every race we've gone to this year has been a different strategy with a 100 lapper, twin 50's and now a 75 lapper. I enjoyed leading a couple of times, it gave me a chance to see exactly what I had. But tonight I missed it with my strategy and we missed it a little with the setup. Right now we're running decent and everybody's having fun so it looks like we'll run a few more MRS shows and see where  it goes. We've had a good car where ever we've unloaded, we just got to work the kinks out. That we're there and that close, I'm pretty optimistic. I think we can be a contender."

Hard charger of the Beech Ridge event was without a doubt Andy Shaw. The Center Conway NH resident suffered damage in qualifying, then came from the last starting position in the feature to end up with a 4th place. His drive through the field had the locals cheering.

Shaw commented "It was amazing really, we had a great car, actually the rack broke at the beginning of the race, it must have broke from the heat race incident and on restarts I would have to turn the wheel an extra half a turn and it would push until I did that and the wheel would catch and It was fine after that. So I was racing with a bad rack to boot, it was amazing. Starting dead last and I drove to third but I had to pit when it started to leak, then we fixed that. It was so fast, it just never fell off. We're still learning about this stuff (tour mods), I have an excellent crew plus this place, its my favorite track to run."

Monadnock Speedway Results from 8-19-17

Posted by Wayne G. Barber & Photos Wayne G. Barber Library

Winchester, NH: The EXIT Realty Modified Touring Series joined the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly divisions for an exciting night of racing. After rain forced last week’s program to be shortened; Mother Nature dialed up a beautiful day for racing and it showed by the large crowd that filled the stands. Due to the previous weeks weather ,it was decided that the Thunder Stocks and Sportsman Modifieds would run double features tonight and the racing action would start an hour earlier at 5pm. Mike Flynn would capture his 1st Sportsman Modified feature win in only his 6th start in a modified. Tyler Leary (Super Stocks), Nathan Johnson (Sportsman Modifieds feature #2), Matt Kimball (Mini Stocks), Matt Gauffin (Lightening Stocks), Jason Kozacka (Thunder Stocks feature #1), Richard Vincent (Thunder Stocks feature #2), and Cale Skillings (Young Guns) found their way to victory lane in their respected division. The decision was made to not have the Thunder Stocks and Sportsman Modifieds run heat races. So before the other divisions ran their heat races the Thunder Stocks and Sportsman Modifieds ran their first of two features.
The Thunder Stocks would thunder on to the track first. Bruce Clark in the #39 and the 28 of Craig Chaffee started on the front row. At the drop of the green Clark would stumble and Chaffee would capitalize on this by taking the lead. Chaffee wouldn’t have the lead for long as Kozacka motored around him a lap later. Kozacka never looked back on his way to collecting his 3rd win of the season. Kozacka entered the race tied in points with the 9 of James Nowakowski. Unfortunately for Nowakowski, he lost a motor in practice. Nowakowski was able to borrow a car and finish in 5th place. In victory lane Kozacka stated “I would rather have him (Nowakowski) out here in his own car and competing at a high level, but a win is a win.” Chaffee found himself in 2nd when all was said and done. Richard Vincent in the #4 finished 3rd.
The Sportsman Modifieds took to the track for their first feature of the night. The feature would be slowed by 2 caution periods. Cole Littlewood in the 5C and Kim Rivet in the 99 started on the front row. Littlewood led the first 10 laps of the event before turning it over to Flynn and the 54 machine. Once in the lead Flynn never looked back on his way to victory lane. Flynn is still unsure how many more races they will be able to attend as their schedule is pretty busy but is hopeful to run a few more races. Rivet drove a great race and was rewarded with a 2nd place finish. Joel Monahan put his 03 machine on the podium with a 3rd place finish.
After the heat races ,the Young Guns rolled onto the track next for their feature event with the 28 of Sammy Silva on the front row. Silva stumbled at the drop of the green. The 21 of Chris Phelps would only lead for the first lap before Cale Skillings in the 95 drove his car from the back to the front on his way to his 6th win of the season. The 99 of Bella Minchella tried to reel in Skillings but was unable get the job done before the checkered flag flew. Skillings plans to move on to the lightening stocks in the next few weeks. Minchella held on to finish 2nd and Phelps crossed the line in 3rd.
Lightening stocks were next on the track for their chance to electrify the crowd. Alex Barden in the 27 and Leon Keniston in the 13k brought the field to the green. Barden would lead the first 3 circuits before the 3 of Dylan Stebbins would muscle his way to the top spot. Stebbins time at the top would be short lived as he would make contact with Barden causing him (Stebbins) to spin out a lap after taking the lead. Barden inherited the lead but the 68 of Matt Gauffin had other plans, as on the ensuing restart he wasted no time taking the lead. Gauffin walked away from the battle for 2nd place between Keniston and the 88 of Hillary Renaud. Renaud took 2nd place from Keniston just after halfway and was able to hold on to finish 2nd. Jon Fultz finished 3rd.
Mini Stocks raced on to the track next for their 25 lap feature event. Tim Paquette in the 93 and Kevin McKnight in the 76 made up the front row. Paquette took command of the top spot at the drop of the green and McKnight decided to drop into 2nd place. The 50 of Matt Kimball wasted no time in getting to the front after starting towards the back of the field. Kimball was in 3rd place by the 4th lap and 4 laps later on lap 8 Kimball completed the pass for the lead. Kimball lead the rest of the way to capture back to back Mini Stock wins. Alexander Pearl in the 43 finished 2nd and Louis Maher in the 69 finished 3rd.
Up next on the track came the Super Stocks for their 25 lap feature. Entering the race Joel Monahan (03) held an 18 point lead in the point standings over Tyler Leary (11x). At the end of the night Monahan would take a major hit in his points lead. Justin Littlewood in the 37 would be on the inside and Cole Littlewood in the 12 led the division to the green. Justin Littlewood jumped out in the lead at the drop of the green. Cole Littlewood raced side by side for 4 laps with the 11x of Tyler Leary. On Lap 5 Leary made his move to take sole control of 2nd place. On Lap 9 Leary would be scored with leading his first lap of the night. Justin Littlewood didn’t make it easy on Leary as they went back and forth for the top spot. Leary eventually was able to get past Justin Littlewood on lap 12. Cole Littlewood found his way around his younger brother to take 2nd place on lap 13. On lap 19 Geoff Rollins in the 02 drove around the outside of Justin Littlewood to take 3rd place. Leary captured his 6th win of the season and back to back wins. Cole Littlewood held on for 2nd and Rollins finished 3rd.

Thundering on to the track next was the Thunder Stocks for feature #2. James Nowakowski in the borrowed #45x and Craig Chaffee in the 28 made up the front row. Nowakowski and Chaffee would go thru turns 1 and 2 side by side but Nowakowski got a little lose making contact with Chaffee. The contact would be minimal and it only slowed both cars down. Chaffee was able to get by Nowakowski for the lead. Nowakowski was running 2nd when he got stuck behind a lapped car causing him to lose 2 spots. On lap 9 Chaffee slowed coming out of turn 2. Chaffee managed to keep the car out of the wall and headed back to the pits. Richard Vincent in the 4 assumed the lead and James Kozacka in the 43 took over 2nd. The race was slowed on lap 17 by Nowakowski spinning. It was determined he had help from the 5 of Scott Vien. Both cars were sent to the rear. On the ensuing restart Vincent held on the lead. Vincent captured his 2nd win of the season. Kozacka crossed the line in 2nd and Jon Goddard in the #25 found himself in the 3rd spot.
Sportsman Modifieds roared onto the track for their 2nd feature next. Todd Warren in the 62 and Kim Rivet in the 99 brought the field to the green. Warren found himself in the lead at the drop of the green. The race wouldn’t get to go far as the 09 of Chris Ignazio spun in turns 3 and 4 due to a flat left rear tire. On the restart Warren took the lead but Nathan Johnson in the 5j had different plans as he (Johnson) passed Warren for the lead before a lap could be completed. The caution came out on lap 12 as the 8 car had their right front tire go down. The 24 of Todd Patnode was caught up in that accident but was able to continue on. Johnson wouldn’t surrender the lead as he drove to his 2nd win of the season. The move of the race had to be on lap 18 when the 44 of Brain Chapin made contact with the back stretch wall but was able to keep going. Chapin went on to finish 3rd. Ben Byrne in the 6 finished 2nd. In victory lane Johnson mentioned it was his team’s decision to save the new tires for the 2nd feature that paid off for them.
The last feature of the night would be the 125 lap EXIT Realty Modified Touring Series race. West Swanzey, NH’s Kirk Alexander in his famous #43 was on the pole and Riverhead, NY’s Eric Goodale in the 58was on the outside. The race would be mired with cautions every few laps as all of the drivers appeared anxious to get to the front. After an 11 lap caution the drivers seemed to settle in a bit and the next caution wouldn’t fly until lap 35. Thru all of the restarts Alexander held onto the lead.  Alexander would lead the first 91 laps of the race before Goodale would get past him for the lead. Alexander would fall off the pace quickly before he would spin out on the front stretch on lap 93. Goodale would lead from lap 91 to lap 108. On lap 109 Rowan Pennink would get his #25 under Goodale going into turn 3 and finish the pass exiting turn 4. Pennink would hold on to capture his first EXIT Realty Modified Touring Series victory. Woody Pitkat brought home his #52 in 2nd place and Goodale would hold on to finish 3rd.

Moltz pounces early, dominates WMMP 150

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

North Woodstock, NH – Dillon Moltz raced his way back into the American Canadian Tour (ACT) title chase with a convincing win in the Foley Oil & Propane 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park Saturday.

Moltz started third in the RB Performance No. 5 Chevrolet, survived early contact with Stephen Donahue and then took the lead from Jason Corliss for keeps on lap 25.

Corliss battled back to finish 2nd after getting shuffled back behind lapped traffic on the fourth of five restarts on lap 92.

Moltz’ biggest challenge came from Jimmy Hebert on the final restart on lap 108, but he soon opened up a comfortable lead and drove off to his second win of the season.

ACT point leader Scott Payea, dinged up by early contact, soldiered on to a 10th-place finish, but saw his championship bid advantage trimmed, unofficially, to 28 points.

After some door banging in the closing laps, Corliss and Hebert finished 2nd and 3rd ahead of Jesse Switzer and Josh Masterson.

Switzer earned a $1,000 bonus as the highest finishing White Mountain weekly competitor. Positions 6-10 went to Rowland Robinson Jr., Shawn Swallow, Oren Remick, Donahue and Payea.

Payea was saved more than once by yellow flags that were thrown just as Moltz was about to put him a lap down.

“This is great,” Moltz said. “It takes the weight off my shoulders. We weren’t good for much of the day, but we changed the front springs and the car was great for the race. We figured passes had to be made on the bottom.”

“I thought, I’ll stay low and if the leaders come to me, I’d try to take over,” Moltz added. “When I got to my own line, I was fine.”

Moltz and Corliss were well ahead of the field when a caution closed things up on lap 66. By the halfway mark, Moltz drew out to a five car-length advantage over Corliss, Hebert, Robinson, Jeff Marshall and Remick.

Over the final forty laps, Moltz often led by a full straightaway when not in heavy traffic. Meanwhile, the Corliss/Hebert duel began to heat up.

“The 5-car was really on his game,” Corliss said. “The restarts cost us, especially the one where I got caught behind a slower car. Second isn’t bad though, and the next race is on our home turf (Thunder Road September 3).

Belcher makes it 5 wins at Seekonk Speedway 8-19-17

Seekonk Mass.: Fans on parade night at Seekonk Speedway and the sports trucks started out the full race card field on a muggy summers night. John Robidoux #93 Taunton, Mass. and Lenny Guy #77 New Bedford led the 13 truck field to the green flag. The field was absent last weeks winner Rob ( Dropkick) Murphy #82, Hard nose wheelman John Paiva #21and the all time track champion in this division Mike Cavallarro #80. The battle between Mike Duarte #50 Dighton, Mass. and Chase Belcher for 12 laps was worth the price of admission. Barry Shaw Jr. #85 who is not fading away in the points race was also duking it out with the Joshua Hedges #38 for third and fourth and just close enough to pounce if the two leaders took each other out. It took a last lap clean pass by Belcher to secure his division leading fifth victory. The #00 Ed Perry who hails from Rehoboth, Mass. and the #32 driven by Warwick, RI's David Simpson started hitting their marks late in the race and another caution or 5 laps of fender banging racing could have changed this outcome.
Belcher with five wins (568 points) in 2017 still cannot shake the tenacious Barry Shaw with a pair of wins and (544 ) points and only 24 back. Mike Duarte sits at third with a win and a hefty points ((536) and only -32 out of a championship. All the top 4 trucks were turning great laps in the high 14 second range 14.765 thru 14.950 The maturity and confidence level is now showing for the young Everett Auto Parts driver Chase Belcher in his quest for a second weekly track championship with Mike Cavallaro having a off year. Belcher has also wrapped up the Phil's Propane Triple Crown Championship in this division and will have to build a longer mantle for his many trophies.
