Camping World Truck Series Results Daytona Race 1

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

Sauter wins at Daytona:

Last years racing season saw Ford swept all 3 races at Daytona in February.

Chevrolet was still looking for their first ever Daytona win in the Camping World Truck Series too. The series began in 1995. Johnny Sauter will have that distinction in the NASCAR record books for ever.

#21-Johnny Sauter won a dramatic season-opening NextEra Energy Resources 250 under the lights at the famed Daytona International Speedway on Friday night. Sauter took the lead on the last lap and seemingly simultaneously, a violent wreck involving the #4 truck of Christopher Bell broke out behind him, ending the race under yellow. The #4-Bell, flipped multiple times as other trucks were collected in the wreck. Bell exited the damaged truck under his own power but was later transferred to a local hospital for further evaluation. #81-Ryan Truex finished second, followed by #92-Parker Kligerman, #86-Brandon Brown, #50-Travis Kvapil, #02-Tyler Young, #41-Ben Rhodes, #19-Daniel Hemric, #14-Scott Lagasse, Jr., and #88-Matt Crafton.
There were 26 lead changes among 10 drivers and 7 caution flags for 29 laps. An 18-truck accident broke out on lap 92, forcing an extended red flag period for cleanup. The red flag lasted for 27 minutes.
With the win, Sauter, in his first race with GMS Racing, is the first driver to qualify for the newly implemented Chase in the Truck Series.

Bell released after accident: Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Christopher Bell was involved in a late-race accident during the running of Friday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Bell was transported to a local hospital following the accident as a precaution and was evaluated and released early Saturday morning.(Kyle Busch Motorsports)(2-20-16)
