NASCAR fines Kyle Busch $10,000 for skipping media obligations

NASCAR fined Kyle Busch $10,000 and placed him on probation through April 27 for not going to the media center after Saturday’s Xfinity Series race.

The Xfinity Series Rule Book states that the winner, runner-up and third-place finisher for an event are required to go to the media center after a race unless excused by NASCAR. Typically, the third-place finisher is excused. Busch, who finished second in the Xfinity race after blowing a tire on the last lap while he led, was not excused.
NASCAR also announced Thursday that it fined Danica Patrick $20,000 and placed on probation for four Sprint Cup events for approaching the racing surface after she crashed in the Sprint Cup race. She walked toward the track to show her displeasure with Kasey Kahne for the contact.
NASCAR did not penalize Busch for his comments on the team’s radio channel after the race. NASCAR also did not penalize crew chief Cole Pearn for his tweet about Joey Logano after Sunday’s race. Pearn later apologized for the tweet.
Busch was upset after Saturday’s Xfinity race when NASCAR did not throw a caution for debris after his right front tire failed on the last lap while leading. Austin Dillon passed Busch on the last corner to win. Busch finished second.
Fox Sports 1 played Busch’s radio communications after the race. Busch said: “Debris all over the race track and they don’t throw a yellow. I’m just so pleased with you, NASCAR. Thanks. You all are awesome. Fixing races.’’
Section 12.8.1.b of the Sprint Cup Rule Book states that a competitor could be fined between $10,000 – $50,000 and/or placed on probation for: “Disparaging the sport and/or NASCAR’s leadership.’’
Also, Kevin Harvick was not penalized by NASCAR for not reporting to the media center after finishing second in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race. NASCAR excused him from going.
