The points race was tied between 2013 champion #25 Rowan Pennick and #21 Justine Bonsignore after Pennick won his point paying heat race. Savory and #44 Woody Pitkat, fresh off his two big wins this year in the NASCAR Whelen North Series, also won their heat races. Woody won my hard charger of the race award after spinning out on lap #49 and having to pit because a tire went down and still stayed hitting his marks for a solid podium finish. A restart with 20 to go tightened the field to Pitkat's advantage
Bonsignore said, started dead last via taking a provisional and a season high 5th second place finish,we had a game plan of just riding around similar to what the #9 (Barrett) does because it usually works nine times out of ten. The caution fell our way at the end. We did what we had to do and not get into anybody. It was a little weird with the 9 (Barrett). I don't know what was going on there, but it was a good day for us. It would be an honor to go to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and win a championship for the legendary Art Barry and Spafco team, these guys work their tails off every night in the shop and I get to just show up and drive. Rookie of the year candidate #38 Mike Willis Jr. of Grantham, NH, improved his rookie record by leading the first 19 laps and a final top 5 finish before losing the lead to #76 Dennis Perry of Pawcatuck, Conn. who then set the pace to lap 81. Perry garnered his season and career best 4th place finish in the race and cannot wait for the green flag at Thompson to drop.
Savory who had a good starting slot of the 6th hole then made his move on lap 81 to score the victory. On lap #85 the field knew that #9 (Barrett) was being black flagged but he still stayed out on the race track. Savory did not play the game of trying to run him down on his worn tires and to bring his race car home in one piece after what will be three races in 14 days to end the 2014 racing season.
27 race cars made up the qualifying field for the event on the large season ending event at Lee USA and 24 made the starting field. Drivers,Kirk Alexander, CJ Bolton, and Greg Hurley DNQ
After a pre-race drivers meeting that warned of aggressive driving would not be tolerated, race director John Spence Jr. backed up that warning by disqualifying #9 Tommy Barrett Jr., for being to aggressive with his front bumper and a three wide pass.
The roller coaster season comes to a climax this weekend with Justine Bonsignore holding a comfortable 37 point advantage. Pennick took the lethal points hit on lap #80 with his ignition system failed in the race car and had to park it.The contest will be for bragging rights for #2 through 4 in the final standings. Pennick, Savory or #5ct Chris Pasteryak who is still looking for his first win in 2014. With the #66 Keith Rocco entered in the race, do not count him out after snagging three wins on his short schedule in the Valenti Modified Racing Series...Wayne
