Racing Green is not Un-Lucky for Dave Trudeau

16 Monster Mini's made the field for the second of ten races of the 2016 Thompson racing schedule Two exciting heats for the division and then the features starting with the Mini Stock division feature which provided an exciting battle throughout the entirety of the 15-lap event with the defending series champion,#97 Dave Trudeau, coming out on top for his second consecutive win of the season. However, it was not an easy road to victory lane for Trudeau as he had to work his way to the front through a field of extremely competitive cars that included early leader #37 Jordan Hadley who just snatched a victory at New London Waterford Speed Bowl this past weekend and was riding a lot of confidence and eventual runner up #20 Wayne Burroughs Jr. who narrowly missed a victory by half a car length in a neck-and-neck battle with Trudeau to the checkered flag.
Burroughs is the 2015 Mini Stock Champion at New London Waterford Speed Bowl. Burroughs also showed a lot of speed at the Ice Breaker in April. The first caution appeared at lap 4 when #26 Jeff Moffat, Sr. spun out and then on the restart #7 Chris Viens and #19 Nick Matera who came on strong in the later part of the 2015 racing season at Thompson fought just a little to hard for the same piece of pavement. #51 Scott Michalski showed a lot of horse power in the first third of the race and Trudeau followed him thru the pack.
With back-to-back wins to start the season Trudeau said his second victory of the year has helped him gain some confidence that his team can repeat as champions. “It was a lot of fun,“ Trudeau said after the race. “(Wayne Burroughs, Jr.) had a fast car. We kept tweaking all day long with it. We got a little bit better. It’s still not perfect, but it never is. I just want to thank everyone who helped me out –We always have a good car. I don’t want to get too cocky and say ‘oh, we’ve got a real good piece here’. We’ll just try to be consistent and keep my cool and move forward. Hopefully we finish top five every week.”
The best looking race car in this scribes opinion was the #2 Doug "D Fresh Curry in red and off-white who took a big hit in the homestretch wall in his heat and his pit crew did a outstanding job to get him in the feature. #38 Ed Field ran a very smart race and should reach victory lane in 2016. It was really strange to not see #50 Louis Bellisle not on the track or Pascoag', R.I. Baxter brothers in this division after so many wins, top 5's and 1 championship for Chad Baxter.
