Thompson Late Models Invited to Test at Stock Car Road Race Challenge

(THOMPSON, CT) - OTB Promotions and Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) have announced the addition of four Late Model practice sessions to the Saturday schedule of the Stock Car Road Race Challenge on September 11th and 12th. Though they will not be participating in competitive laps, the sessions will give Late Model teams an ideal opportunity to test car set-up and driving techniques on the newly re-opened 1.7 mile road course at TSMP.

Multi-time Late Model champion, Rick Gentes, will be among several other Late Model teams taking advantage of the practice sessions. “I don’t have any experience with this kind of racing, but my chassis builder has a good idea of how to set up the car for the road course.” Gentes stated. “If anything it will be more me than the car that needs to adapt to driving on the road course.”

The Late Models will be joining the North East Mini Stock Tour, North East Street Stock Tour, Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series, and the TSMP Mini Stocks for the 2-day event. The Stock Car Road Race Challenge will see the first competitive stock car laps on the road course, since it re-opened last year, and is being looked forward to by teams and spectators alike.

Chris Pasteryak Becomes Title Contender With Oxford 100 Win

Oxford, Maine. – Two-time Valenti Modified Racing Series champion Chris Pasteryak of Jewett City, CT, dominated Saturday’s running of the ‘Oxford 100’ to become the seventh different winner in seven races at Oxford Plains Speedway, Oxford, Maine. The race was the headline event on the eve of the 42nd running of the famed ‘Oxford 250.’Pasteryak from his pole starting position led all but 20-laps enroute to his fourth VMRS win this season and his 10th career victory. He is now tied for fourth with Rowan Pennink, each with 10 wins, on the series all-time win list.

“Sorry I stunk up the show,” Pasteryak kidded in victory lane referring to his dominating performance. “ On 250 weekend I think it might have been 1999 or 2001 Cassius Clark beat me on a restart with three to go in a legends car, we came here (2011) and Joe Doucette beat me with three laps to go, I didn’t want to let anyone get close enough tonight to beat me,”
said a smiling Pasteryak.

Pasteryak led the first seven laps of the 100-lap race when Nashua, NH, veteran Norman Wrenn slipped by and held the lead until lap 27 when Pasteryak regained the top
position and never looked back.
“I figured if Norman wanted to go burn it up I’d let him. I knew we were pretty good taking it easy behind him. This Troyer car and Hutter motor really made me look good. It was a good night to have a good night.” Pasteryak said. Kevin Ianarelli, of Groton, MA, had a career best finish nailing down second after being pursued heavily by Les Hinckley
in the late stages of the race.

“It was pretty hooked up for a change. Every time we got to Chris he had a little more in the bank,” Ianarelli said in post race interviews. “We were not going to touch him.”

Ianarelli also knew Hinckley was on the prowl. “They told me he was about five lengths back. Another 10-laps he probably would have got me we were starting to back it into the corners. This Troyer car and Billy The Kid motor really got it done for me.”

Hinckley, the Windsor Locks, CT, driver who returned to competition with a victory at Monadnock Speedway last week was not going to Oxford until the cell phone rang this week. On the other end was Gary Casella, owner of the #25 modified driven by Rowan Pennink when he is not committed elsewhere.
More often this season than in the past, Pennink has had conflicting dates leaving the seat open in Casella’s car forcing the veteran car owner to shop around for a driver for his racer. Hinckley welcomed the opportunity and drove
to a solid third place finish.

Hinckley was complimentary in victory lane. “Gary and I got together for a one race deal to have some fun. Gary has great equipment and I can’t thank him and Kim (Casella) enough for giving me the opportunity. Would have liked to see a caution there at the end and see if we could have mixed it up a little bit but we had plenty of laps to get there. Good run - good piece – last minute deal and it was a lot of fun.”

Russ Hersey, of Swanzey, NH, made a late race charge to finish fourth with veteran Donnie Lashua, of Canaan, NH,
rounding out the top five.

Sixth through tenth were series newcomer Matt Swanson, Jon McKennedy, Dennis Perry, Wrenn, and Todd Patnode.Race Notes:
24 cars entered the Oxford event.
15-year-old Matt Swanson enjoyed a successful debut.
Timed very well in practice sessions, ran in the top five
in the feature, raced side by side with
Jon McKennedy for many laps.
David Schneider and crew flew in for the race from Long Island
and were picked up and flown back at the conclusion of
the race. An airport is adjacent to the speedway property.

Monadnock Speedway,Driver MacMichael Celebrates Three Week Win Streak

WINCHESTER—It was another fine evening for racing this past Saturday at the high banks of Monadnock Speedway as the Pro 4 Modified series came to town to join with the regular Whelen All-American divisions. Track owner Larry Cirillo had Ricky Craven’s old Winston #1 racecar out for some joy laps along with a few lucky fans in the passenger seat before the festivities kicked off for the night.

The story of the night came in the Sportsman Modified division as Scott MacMichael (2^nd in points) closed the gap on leader Bill Kimball. Since encountering motor issues early this summer, MacMichael has seen a resurgence. With his 5^th win of the year, third consecutive win in weekly action, he has his sights firmly set on Kimball and the points lead.

The race didn’t get going right away as three cautions in the first five laps slowed the pace. One incident sent Jason Barden into the front-stretch wall ending his night early when the #15 of Trevor Bleau forced it three wide on lap one.

Once the drivers got things squared away it was Ben Byrne out front for the first 10 laps as he battled Kim Rivet for the top spot early on. The big boys were charging hard behind them, as MacMichael ran with a pack that included Keith Carzello, Brett Gonyaw, and point’s leader Bill Kimball.

MacMichael got around Byrne after he and Gonway touched tires. MacMichael drove away from the field as the other three cars took their time in getting by Byrne and Rivet.

Once Carzello and Gonyaw got around Rivet and Byrne, they set their sights on tracking down MacMichael as the laps quickly ticked away.

Kimball eventually moved by Byrne into 4^th when Carzello and Gonyaw were duking it out behind MacMichael. Kimball’s car may have been the fastest out there, but negotiating through traffic kept him from getting out front.

A bit of contact between the #8 and #87 saw Carzello have to lift to keep it from getting into the wall that allowed Gonyaw to separate and Kimball to get around him for third.

After the win MacMichael proclaimed that “It was barely running tonight to be honest with you.”

MacMichael told how his engine was checked out and it was discovered that the power output was not nearly as high as he thought, “Got it dynoed this week and found out it doesn’t nearly have the horsepower we thought it did,” he added, “I’m putting in an engine with 50 more horse next week and it’s legal!”

With MacMichael’s recent run of gilded form, one is left to wonder if changing anything is a good idea, there is no room for error now as the calendar turns to September.

The Lightning Stocks had the final race of the night and for the fans who stayed to see the end of the show, they were rewarded with one the best races of the season. A tie atop the point standings saw CJ Johnson and Tim LeBlanc looking to get a nose out in front for the inside track to the point’s title. However, early on in this one, Johnson’s car got mixed up with a pack as they bounced off one another. Johnson’s car may have bounced up into the front stretch wall, knocking his car out of contention as he brought the car home in last place.

LeBlanc had the opposite showing as his #52 raced to the front. Last week’s winner Richard Whipple had the lead early on, but LeBlanc was on a rail as he reeled Whipple in.

LeBlanc crossed the line first bringing home the checkered flag ahead of Whipple and Kris Kristolaitis.

In the Mini Stocks, Julia Raymond out wheeled DJ Lazelle and Cameron Sontag to claim victory for the second time this year.

“I’ve never got two wins in one year,” she said after her win, “I’m pretty excited.”

Another exciting race this past Saturday was the Thunder Stock feature. The top two in points last year are battling it out for the championship once again as defending champion Marshall Usher tries to maintain his slender advantage over David Greenslit. On Saturday, Greenslit got the better of Usher as he out wheeled his rival for another victory. The two leaders were challenging only each other as they got by Paul Barnard and James Nowakowski to get ahead of the field.

As they took the white flag, Usher was pushing Greenslit hard down the front stretch into turn one, but driving a bit too hard into the turn, he had to yield allowing Greenslit the space he needed to hold Usher off for the win.

In the Super Stock main event, the win went to Chris Curtis for the 2^nd week in a row. There were a few too many yellow flags, as some drivers had issues with keeping their cars facing the right direction, but Curtis took the point on the last double file restart and made it stick. Joel Monahan led the first 13 laps before Curtis overtook him and claimed victory.

In the Young Guns division, Alexander Pearl took home his third win of the year. It also happened to be his third win in a row, as the youth driver has come into his own the last three weeks. With the influx of former Young Guns drivers in the Whelen All-American series that run weekly at Monadnock, there is no doubt another class of drivers waiting to move up to higher divisions. Pearl might be the most impressive of the group, with the fashion in which he has dominated the last three weeks. It certainly didn’t take long for the young man to find the fastest way around the ¼ mile track.

In the visiting Pro 4 Modified race, Andy Major picked up his 4^th win of the year, out dueling Derek Robie and Randy Clark Jr. Mark Charette finished first in the Pro 4 Lite division ahead of Doug Maservey Jr. and Bill Lucchesi Jr.

Next week the NEMA Midgets come to the high banks of Monadnock Speedway for a special night. It will be the Iron Mike Memorial/ Shane Hammond Memorial event for the NEMAs next week.

Eric Jones new points leader in Camping World Truck Series

Jones wins Canada #4-Erik Jones won the Chevrolet Silverado 250 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday and took over the points lead courtesy of the win. Jones held on to win his second race of the season following a late race restart. #88-Matt Crafton finished second followed by: #11-Ben Kennedy, #14-Daniel Hemric, #29-Alex Tagliani, #98-Johnny Sauter, #13-Cameron Hayley, #23-Spencer Gallagher, #8-John Hunter Nemechek, and #00-Cole Custer. There were 5 caution flags for 13 laps and 14 lead changes among 6 leaders.
#29-Tagliani started the race from the pole and was running second before having issues on the last lap, which dropped him to fifth.
Canada Race Fast Facts:
Erik Jones won the 3rd Annual Chevrolet Silverado 250, his sixth victory in 32 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races.
This is his second victory and 12th top-10 finish in 2015.
This is his first victory and second top-10 finish in two races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Josh Galvin Savors Victory at New London-Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD, CT – First Josh Galvin climbs aboard a Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series ride and then Wins. En-core performance tonight at the Speed Bowl when Josh Galvin becomes the fifth different winner in six races on the North East Street Stock Tour, as he picked up the victory in the A-1 Auto Center/Stebbins Discount Stump Grinding event at New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Galvin started on the pole of the 35-lap feature, but was quickly overtaken by former track champion Chris Douton. The battle would ensue again on lap 7, as Galvin fought his way back to the lead. Another former track champion, Jim Boyle joined the battle, as the top three began to break away from the pack. Boyle made a move to challenge Douton, and the two were side-by-side for numerous laps, which allowed Galvin to open a sizable lead.
While Douton and Boyle fought for position, Patrick Tanguay, Geoff Rollins, and Bryan Town joined the fray, creating a five-car battle at the front. Douton was able to close the distance on Galvin as the field made their way through lapped traffic, but Galvin proved to be too strong, capturing the win in the caution-free event.

Galvin explained “The car was different than it was in the heat, but I didn’t waste too much time, and was able to figure out how to get the thing around again, and go back by Moose [Douton], and capitalize on that, and get the win.”
While Galvin ended the day well, his day did not start the same. Galvin ran in the weekly Limited Sportsman division, but retired from the event early, due to an on-track incident.
“Just settling for a top five would’ve been fun enough for us,” added Galvin. “To add the wreck in the thing, we didn’t even think we’d make the show. We just kept working, and we don’t quit.”
Douton held on to finish second, while celebrating his wife’s birthday. He continued “Josh Galvin had a good run. We were a little loose, because we were struggling all day, but we got it pretty close.”
Commenting on the comradery of the Tour, Douton exclaimed “I didn’t expect to join a Strictly Stock tour, and be with such a good bunch of guys.”

Jim Boyle finished a season-best third in front of his home crowd. Even with his finish, Boyle felt he left a little on the table, explaining “I was actually anticipating a bit better of a finish. If it hadn’t been Moose [Douton] in front of me, it would’ve been a different situation, but he’s always run me clean, and I’m going to give him the same respect he’s given me.”
Tanguay and Rollins would settle for the fourth and fifth spots. Bryan Town held on for the sixth spot, with Anthony Belfiore finishing seventh. Frank L’Etoile, Jr., Joe Arena, and Jack Aquilina rounded out the top ten. Douton and Town picked up heat victories.
The North East Street Stock Tour will be back in action on September 11-12, as part of the Stock Car Road Race Challenge, on the 1.7-mile road course at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. For more information on the North East Street Stock Tour, visit www.nestreetstocktour.com.

Bonsignore Earns Third Win At Home

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Justin Bonsignore joined elite company Saturday night when he drove to a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season sweep of events at Riverhead Raceway.

Bonsignore grabbed the lead from Doug Coby on Lap 115 and held on through six caution restarts to take down a third career victory at his home track, and second in two tries in 2015.
A 12th and final caution came out on Lap 199 just after Bonsignore had taken the white flag in his No. 51 M3 Technology Chevrolet, and he came around to a yellow-checkered. It was the eighth career victory overall for the Holtsville, New York native.
In the process he became just the fifth driver in 31 years of Whelen Modified Tour racing to sweep a season at the venerable Long Island bullring.
Coby and his No. 2 Dunleavy’s Repair/A&J Romano Construction Chevrolet finished second, while rookie Chase Dowling, Donny Lia and Eric Goodale rounded out the top-five.
Tom Rogers Jr – who won his second-consecutive Coors Light Pole Award at Riverhead earlier in the day – finished sixth.
Woody Pitkat, championship points leader Ryan Preece, Todd Szegedy and rookie Jeff Goodale completed the top-10.
Pitkat gained one point on Preece, who now leads by a single tally with three races remaining on the schedule.

Paul Menard wins XFINITY race at Road America: #33-Paul Menard won the Road America 180 at Road America. #22-Ryan Blaney finished second, followed by #2-Brian Scott, #9-Chase Elliott, #6-Darrell Wallace, Jr., #54-Boris Said, #42-Justin Marks, #7-Regan Smith, #60-Chris Buescher, and #3-Ty Dillon.
Pole-sitter #88-Ben Rhodes finished 32nd, 4 laps down, after sliding off track and into the gravel stop.
Points leader Chris Buescher now leads Chase Elliott by 16 points with 10 races remaining.
There were 3 cautions for 11 laps and 9 lead changes among 6 leaders.

Two in a row in the SK Lite's for Stafford Driver Payton Henry

In the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature event, Geoff Boisjolie and Jay Goff were racing hard side by side for the lead on the opening lap and the caution came out with 1 lap on the scoreboard as Kyle Jette spun in turn 1 and Joey Ferrigno got caught in the high lane as Jette came back up the track. Mark Alkas also spun trying to avoid Jette and Daniel Wesson came to a stop in turn 2 and had to be towed off the track.

Jay Goff powered by Boisjolie on the restart to move into the lead. Tony Membrino, Jr. was on the outside of Boisjolie for second when Boisjolie spun coming off turn 2 to bring the caution out with 2 laps complete.

Glenn Griswold took a ride through the infield grass on the backstretch on the restart but he was able to keep his car moving and he rejoined at the rear of the field as the race stayed green. Membrino was the leader with Payton Henry getting around Goff to move into second. Bob Charland and Nick Salva were side by side for fourth place with Salva taking the place on lap-7.

The cvaution came out with 12 laps complete as Alkas and Goff spun in opposite ends of the track. Back under green, Henry was challenging Membrino on the outside for the lead and Salva nearly made it 3-wide but backed out and fell back into line in third. The caution came back out with 14 laps complete as Charland spun and hit the frontstretch wall and Todd Douillard spun.

Henry took the lead from Membrino on the restart and Stephen Kopcik moved into second with Membrino falling back to third. Salva was challenging Membrino for fourth place when the caution came out with 15 laps complete for a spin by Kyle Trayner.

Henry took ht elead back under green with Kopcik and Salva battling side by side for second. Membrino was foruth with D.J. Burnham and Cory Casagrande side by side for fifth. Salva took second and Burnham was now on the outside of Kopcik as the field took the white flag.

8 Wins for Late Model Driver Tom Fearns at Stafford Speedway !

In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Josh Wood went from fifth to the lead on the opening lap of the race. Michael Bennett followed him to the front and settled into second with Ed Ricard third, Michael Scorzelli fourth, and Tom Fearn fifth. Rich Hammann hit the turn 3 wall to bring the caution out with 2 laps complete.

Wood powered into the lead on the restart with Bennett holding off a challenge from Ricard to remain in second. Fearn pulled alongside Ricard as they completed lap 3 and he took over third in turn 1 of lap 4. Skip Breunig was fifth with Tommy Butler and Kevin Gambacorta lined up right behind him.

Fearn was beginning to apply pressure to the bumper of Bennett for second while Breunig slid back several spots to seventh place as Gambacorta took fifth and Scorzelli moved up to sixth. Fearn got around Bennett to move into second on lap-8 while Wood continued to lead the race.

Gambacorta took over fourth place from Ricard on lap-16 and Scorzelli nearly dropped Ricard back to sixth, but Ricard was able to hold off his challenge. As the leaders completed lap -25, it was a 3-car train in a fight for the lead with Wood leading Fearn and Bennett.

Fearn tried for two laps to make a move in turn 3 before he was able to finally make a pass stick on lap-28. Now Bennett was all over Wood’s bumper as Fearn was pulling away. Fearn led the trio back to the checkered flag to pick up his eighth win of the season. Bennett made a last ditch effort in turns 3+4 but Wood was able to hold him off for second. Gambacorta finished fourth with Scorzelli rounding out the top-5. Only blemish on Fearn's stellar Late Model 2015 season is the 1 race suspension with no points earned. In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Matt Galko set the early pace with Ted Christopher and Eric Berndt behind him. Keith Rocco quickly moved into fourth and Rowan Pennink got by Jeremy Sorel to move up to fifth.

Berndt made a move to the inside of Christopher to take second on lap-4 and Rocco was right on his bumper looking to follow suit. Rocco pulled alongside Christopher and he took over third on lap-6. Pennink was now on the inside of Christopher and looking to take fourth but Christopher was able to hold him off.

On lap-10, Ryan Preece moved his way past Christopher to move into fifth after starting ninth. Pennink was up to fourth as Galko was still leading Berndt and Rocco. Ronnie Williams got by Christopher to take sixth.

Rocco made his move to take over second on lap-17 and Pennink was now side by side with Berndt in a duel for third. This allowed Preece and Williams to close right in on their bumpers. Rocco continued his charge as he went by Galko on lap-19 to take over the race lead. Pennink was third with Preece fourth and Berndt and Williams were side by side for fifth.

Galko came back strong on the inside of Rocco on lap-20 and they ran side by side for a lap before Galko retook the lead at the line to complete lap-21. Just as the field completed lap-21, Joey Cipriano’s car came to a stop on the backstretch to bring the caution out.

Galko took the lead back under green while Pennink took second, but only briefly as Williams was on his inside and they were side by side for the spot. Williams took second and he made a move to the inside of Galko and he took the lead at the line as they completed lap-24. Pennink was third with Rocco and Preece making up the top-5. Preece spun in turn 2 and collected Berndt to bring the caution out with 26 laps complete.

Williams took the lead while Pennink and Galko were side by side for second and Woody Pitkat was side by side with Todd Owen for fourth. Pennink took second with Galko slotting into third. Pitkat got the better of his duel with Owen and took fourth.

As the laps began to wind down, Pennink looked like he had a stronger car getting into the corner than Williams, but Williams would stretch out his advantage once they came off the corners. The two leaders were leaving Galko behind, who was in turn all by himself as Pitkat and Owen were side by side for fourth. Williams led Pennink to the checkered flag to pick up his sixth win of the season. Galko finished third, with Pitkat beating Owen to the line by a nose for fourth place.

Donny Schatz Wins Career #199 at Oil City Night !

Donny Schatz Scores Patient Victory at Oil City Cup Night One

Picks up his 26th win of the season and 199th career series win

EDMONTON, Alb. - Aug. 28, 2015 - Donny Schatz waited patiently Friday night at the Oil City Cup at Castrol Raceway as Shane Stewart and Joey Saldana battled each other for the lead for the first two-thirds of the race. When the moment was right, Schatz struck, sliding past the two drivers, then first and second, to take over the lead and eventually score his 26th World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

"I don't know that we were probably as good as what Shane and Joey were but we just kept running different grooves and got to traffic and had to wait for them to make a mistake," Schatz said. "I don't know what happened but all I know is I came out of there and I didn't see them in front of me anymore. That's always good for when you're trying to pass."

Schatz, who hovered around third most of the night in his No. 15 Bad Boy Buggies/Chevrolet Performance car after starting the feature in fifth, found himself in the position on lap 24 as Stewart and Saldana worked their way through traffic. With Saldana on his bumper bar, Stewart caught up with Jason Sides and made contact with the wall before making slight contact with Saldana. The chain of events was the break Schatz needed as he drove by.

The win is the 199th career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory for Schatz and fourth straight at Castrol Raceway.

David Gravel took home the quick time earlier in the night after a lap of 13.359 seconds in qualifying. Stewart and Saldana led the field to the green flag in the feature following a tight battle in the Dash.

Cautions plagued much of the feature, stopping action eight times throughout the main event. As Schatz rose through the field, taking over third by lap five, one constant was the tight battle between Stewart and Saldana. On at least two occasions, Saldana battled past Stewart on a restart only to have the caution fly before a lap could be completed.
On lap nine after several laps of racing, disaster nearly struck for the two leaders as several cars were caught up in a crash in turns three and four. As the field bunched up and the yellow began to wave, Saldana and Stewart weaved their way through, splitting cars and avoiding contact all while maintaining the battle for the lead.

Saldana finally did get around Stewart's No. 2 Eneos/GoPro/KickIt car for the lead on lap 16, as another caution reset the field. Saldana took the high line in turns one and two and Stewart was not able to close the door. He went on to lead lap 16 and the subsequent six laps.

As Saldana began working his way through the back of the pack, the small lead he had built over Stewart and Schatz evaporated. Stewart was all over Saldana eventually, briefly, retaking the lead, but the lapped traffic proved a formidable foe.

"Just trying to get around Sides and he entered in the middle of the track," Stewart said of the incident that cost he and Saldana. "I thought he was going to stay there and he just kind of kept coming and got into me. He never saw me. Typically, he doesn't go that high on the race track."

Schatz got around both drivers in one fell swoop. One more yellow flag lay ahead for the drivers but Schatz easily jumped out to the lead and scored the victory.

"We definitely didn't have the best car," Schatz said. "But with the best team these guys will definitely go back and try to make it better and see if we can't be a little better tomorrow night."

Stewart, who finished second to Schatz was disappointed for the night that could have been.

"We had a great car," Stewart said. "I had a good enough car to win that race pretty easily. I wasn't really sure what to do on all those restarts. I know Joey kept getting a run on me but I felt like if I could get off of four really well he wouldn't be able to get to me and on that last one he got to me… You've got have a little bit of luck. When you do get on the front row you've got to be able to take advantage of it. It felt like we were able to do that tonight, I just got caught up with a lap car."

Saldana was all smiles as he climbed from his No. 71M Motter Equipment car. The driver and his team have hit their stride in recent weeks and have found success with a series of podium finishes.
"It was a good third place," Saldana said. "This is a fun little race track and lap traffic was just crazy. That is pretty much what got me and Shane, and Donny just snookered us both. That's the way to goes. We had a good car, these have been the two best cars all season so we were hanging right with them tonight but obviously you can see we're third not first or second, so we've got to get a little bit better.

"The guys are working really hard. The Motter car has been fast every time we've been out, it's just trying to seal it up and get a win, the hard part. Hopefully we can do that tomorrow."
