North East Street Stock Tour Finishes Inaugural Season at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park

THOMPSON, CT – The inaugural North East Street Stock Tour title will be decided at the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing, presented by Xtramart, at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, on October 16-18.  The tour will be one of fifteen divisions in action, where fourteen champions will be crowned.

In storybook fashion, the North East Street Stock Tour (NESST) championship has gone back and forth between three drivers, with Geoff Rollins leading Chris Douton by a mere four points entering the final race in the championship series.  Rollins, who has two wins on the tour this season (Monadnock Speedway, Lee USA Speedway), is confident entering the event at the 5/8 mile facility.

Rollins goes on to say, “I think we have a good shot at winning the race.  I have won championships on the last night, and I have lost them on the last night.  I will race just as hard as any other night.”

The Groton, MA resident would love the championship, but admits he’s had a great season regardless of the final outcome, saying, “If we don't win the championship, I won't be disappointed.  We have had a good season.  My crew and family deserve the championship for all their support and hard work they put in this year.”

Equally as confident, Chris Douton is prepared to battle for the championship at the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing.  A former champion at the track in 2011, Douton is eager to add the NESST title to his mantle.  Douton continued, “We are putting in some extra time on the car to help us capture the championship.  Winning the inaugural race at Lee [USA Speedway], and winning the first point race at Seekonk [Speedway] was awesome, to win the first NESST title would be the icing on the cake.  It would be perfect.”

The wild card of the championship hunt is Joe Arena.  Arena capitalized on both Rollins’ and Douton’s misfortunes at the Stock Car Road Race Challenge in September.  A NESST feature winner at Speedway 51 in June, Arena sits only 12 points behind Rollins entering the final event.  With a point per position in heat races, and two points per position in feature events, each of these drivers are very much in the hunt.  Stock Car Road Race Challenge victor Jim Boyle sits fourth in points, 34 marks behind, with Patrick Tanguay 43 points off the pace.

History will be made at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, as the North East Street Stock Tour will crown the inaugural champion on October 16-18, at the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing, presented by Xtramart.  Heat races are scheduled to run on Friday, October 16, with the 20-lap feature event to be run on Saturday.  Tickets to the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing, presented by Xtramart, are $55 for adults, $12 for children ages 6-14, and children 5 and under free.  For more information on the North East Street Stock Tour, visit www.nestreetstocktour.com.
