MONADNOCK SPEEDWAY RESULTS 7-24-16

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

Winchester, NH – This past weekend, Monadnock Speeway hosted the Dunleavy Truck & Repair 200 featuring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour where Timmy Solomito celebrated his first victory at the high banked ¼ mile.
Mother nature forced the event to become a two-day show as storms moved into the area after three of the Monadnock Speedway divisions were completed. The decision was made NASCAR and speedway management to run the NASCAR Whelen Modified event along with the remainder of the speedway’s divisions on Sunday afternoon.
In the Saturday night action for the Young Guns Shelby Avery took the victory leading the field from green to checkers.  Alex Barden and Mariah Stebbins attempted in the first few laps to catch the leader with Stebbins making the pass on Barden for second.   Jaret Curtis cruised into third by lap five.  The top three continued to lead the way with Devin Guy and Chloe Wright moving into the top five.  At the checkers, it was Avery for her second win followed by Stebbins, Curtis, Guy and Wright.
The Lightning Stocks rolled on next as Justin Littlewood brought the field to the green. Kris Kristolaitis and Tim Paquette battled early for the second spot with Kristolaitis taking it over.  By lap eight, the quick moving Pat Houle took over the top spot leaving another battle for second between Littlewood and Kristolaitis. The unbeatable Houle took the checkers followed by Kristolaitis, Littlewood, Paquette and Eric Silvernale.
The last division of the night to come onto the track before the storms moved in were the Mini Stocks with Mike McGoldrick and Eric Pomasko on the front row. At the green, Pomasko took over the lead. By lap three, Pomasko fell back to third as Matt Kimball moved into the top spot followed by Solomon Brow.  Kimball and Brow battled for the top spot as Julia Raymond moved in third putting the pressure on. On lap twenty, Pomasko pulled off the track giving McKnight fourth. With the wave of the checkers it was Kimball taking down the win followed by Brow, Raymond, McKnight and Ethan Marsh.
At the end of the Mini Stock event, the rain came into forcing the remainder of the event to be completed on Sunday where the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour led off the afternoon event of racing with Timmy Solomito leading every lap of 200 lap feature.   Rowan Pennick put the pressure on Solomito late in the event but was denied and had to settle for second place followed Jimmy Blewett, Eric Goodale and Justin Bonsignore.
After the completion of the 200 laps of the NASCAR Whelen Modifieds, the speedway’s Super Stock division took to a very slick track due to the heavy rubber and afternoon heat.  The first few laps were tough on the competitors with several caution coming out for spins.  By lap 10 the competitors settled in as Robert Hagar led the way.  Joel Monahan ran second waiting for the opportunity to take the lead. On lap fifteen, Monahan made the pass leaving Hagar in a battle with Dennis Stange for third place.  A side by side run for fourth between Tyler Leary and Cole Littlewwod developed with both switching position for several laps.   Monahan began to pull away from the Hagar and Stange creating a ¼ of a track lead on the rest of the field. At the end, it was Monahan claiming the victory followed by Hagar, Stange, Littlewood and Leary.
Jason Barden led the Sportsman Modifieds out on to the track for their thirty lap event.  On the first lap, Leclair who started second took over the lead as Barden fell back to sixth place.  Ben Byrne and Keith Carzello fought for second.  By lap five, Carzello took over the lead as Cameron Sontag held off Trevor Bleau for second.  On lap eight, a caution came out for Nathan Johnson and John Byrne. On the restart, Bleau took over second as Leclair put the pressure on Sontag for third.  On lap eighteen, Carzello and Bleau made contact with both going around collecting Cameron Sontag ending his race for the day.  Leclair led the field to the restart for a shoot-out.  Leclair began to feel Geoff Rollins on his back bumper as Kim Rivet and Bill Kimball fought for third. Leclair looking for his first win of the season could not hold Rollins off and at the checkers it was Rollins followed by Rivet, Leclair, Kimball and Ben Byrne.
The final feature of the afternoon were the Thunder Stocks as Scott Vien led the field followed by Dan Comeau and Richard Vincent.  The top three ran bumper to bumper as Vincent looked for every opportunity to get by Comeau.  On lap nine the caution came out as Vincent made contact with Comeau.  On the restart, Vien continued to lead as Jason Kozacka and Ed Lofland inherited second and third. Lofland made the pass on Kozacka for second and was on the move to catch Vien.  Craig Chaffee moved into the third position.  At the completion of the feature, Vein took the checkers followed Lofland, Chaffee, Kozacka and James Nowakowski.
