Fred Astle is knocking on the door to Victory Lane !

Angelo Belsito tired of watching Fred Astle’s attempts to take the lead from Kyle Casper for seven laps. After watching Freddy nosing under and having the door slammed on lap 16, the 2014 Rookie-of-the-Year went whole hog to the high side, powered around the multi-champ — and then Casper — to assume the lead for good on lap 18. He clung steadfastly to the front, including restarts on laps 21 and 23 opposite Casper, and a lap 36 duel with Astle. Belsito denied all challenges and claimed the trip to Victory Lane. Flyin’Fred drove in under Casper on the lap 23 restart to run the rest of the distance for second while Kyle laid claim to third. Rick Martin moved Ryan Vanasse back to fifth on lap 23 and the duo completed the distance in position. Belsito’s rocketship moved steadily forward from his eighth place starting position, passing Dave Darling, Dick Houlihan, Kenny Spencer and Pelland by lap five. Three laps later he was past Martin. He went from sixth to third on a lap ten restart, then got by Lineham and Dave Hutchins, Sr. Hutch lead from the pole grabbing the spot from Bobby Pelland III; Vanada ran under Pelland into second as Kyle claimed third. Astle puled into fourth. Kyle went past Vanada to second and two laps later, Astle pulled in behind. Casper then got by Hutch on lap nine and Fred followed into second on the lap ten restart. But Belsito had arrived in fifth, and the restart put him on Astle’s bumper. As Hutch faded, Darling took over fourth and Vanasse joined him on the ensuing circuit. Spencer was at Vanasse’s back on lap 13 and Lineham roared up to Spencer’s bumper followed by Kevin Casper and Martin. The Radical One moved Kevin back three laps later. Vanasse and Spencer were side-by-side and made contact on lap 21. Spencer spun, bringing out the caution. Belsito held pole with Kyle on his shoulder. Astle and Darling menaced from the second row, with Vanasse and Lineham lying in wait. The green flag saw Darling lose two spots after a bump sent him fishtailing. He recovered, but Vanasse and Martin had gone past. A four-wide on the backstretch saw Hutch and Lineham get together. Both made for the pits, Lineham having been shorn of his driver’s door sheet metal. He returned, but Hutchins ended his night.
The restart saw The Radical One easing Vanasse back to fourth, just ahead of Darling. Two more laps and Kevin moved Darling back to sixth, ahead of Mike Brightman. Brightman was relieved of his position by Tom Scully, Jr. At the front, Belsito, Astle, Kyle and Martin formed a rapid pace line. A sizeable gap had formed back to Vanasse, Kevin, Darling, Scully and Brightman. By lap 31, however, Belsito was romping away as Astle tried to keep pace. Kyle and Rick were holding on. Belsito had a ten-car lead on Astle Two laps later, his worst scenario came true as Scully tapped Kevin, who spun, bringing out the caution. Mike Mitchell pitted and Astle assumed the outside pole with four laps remaining. They went wheel-to-wheel down the front and battled for a lap before Belsito could pull ahead at the stripe. Fred dropped in and attempted a cross-under move, but Belsito was prepared and denied him. Tom Scully and Darling were dueling over sixth with Spencer behind them, followed by Brightman. Darling was able to get his nose under the checkers ahead of Scully, while Brightman and then Lineham followed to round out the top ten.
