Chris Pasteryak Awarded Claremont ,NH Victory

Posted by Wayne G. Barber
Claremont Speedway Claremont, New Hampshire.
After four years of not having an MRS event at the Claremont Speedway, the ground pounder's returned and so did the area modified race fans.
After 100 gruling green flag laps that were littered with 17 caution flags, Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield, CT, who entered the event second in the point standings stood in Victory Lane, claiming his second win of the season in the Kevin Stuart owned number 85.
But after post race inspections Szegedy's car was found to have a non-compliant carburetor. As a result Chris Pasteryak of Jewett City CT, who did an outstanding job by bringing the Dawley's Collision sponsored number 5ct from deep in the pack and finishing behind Szegedy; was declared the winner.
Mike Douglas, JR an infrequent visitor to the tour, started the event from the 20th position and steadily gained positions through others' misfortune and some heads up driving of his own. By lap 87, the Tampa, FL resident took over the third spot and chased Szegedy and Pasteryak across the finish line to later be awarded second-place.
Douglas remarked "Like everybody else, it was about survival, I came on the radio and said this was like dodging zombies in a movie or something. I'm really happy with our finish and all we need is a new front bumper and if that's all we need, then we had a pretty successful night. I was hoping Szegedy and Pasteryak would get each other all looped up and I could just swing by for the easy win, but to no avail."
Norm Wrenn of Nashua, NH ran outside the top 10 all night long, was involved in two altercations of his own, used the last 15 laps to power his way to fourth place before being awarded with a third place finish.
Todd Patnode (Richmond, N H) and Russ Hersey (Swanzey, NH) rounded out the top five.
Pasteryak said, "I think the rear is bent, all four wheels are bent, the toe was out about an inch. We just cranked it in and fixed everything the best we could, and after we went back it wasn't bad. It was good enough to get up to the top three. Todd's car was better at the end, I was lucky to finish where I was."
Another hometown favorite, Mike Willis JR of Grantham, NH showed why he runs so strong at Claremont by out powering polesitter Dan Meservey Jr of Brewster, MA and leading through 11 of the 17 caution flags that waived. Willis JR eventually finished ninth.
