The Rain Gods were not invited tonight at Thompson Speedway for the second annual 20/20 point lap late model races and a special non point 10 lap late model sprint for $1,000.00
The first race was a dominant performance by #68 Jeff Rocco for all 20 laps wire to wire. The format now transverses the finish for race number two. The starting lineup had #20 J.P Lowinski Loh from Milford Mass. pole position and # 97 Ernie Larose from Plainfield, Conn. on the outside.
20 car field for 20 laps of full fender action. The faster cars in the rear quickly started moving up the field and then a caution came out at lap 3 when # 17 Ray Parent from Tiverton, R.I. spun out in turn 4. The restart now had #20 Lowinski-Loh and #3 Glenn Boss upfront with #9ma Brian Tagg attached to Boss's bumper like a trailer hitch on a U-Haul.
#4 William Wall was fast off the trailer and was hovering close to the leaders ready to pounce and #88 Keith Rocco was now putting up some outstanding laps and his race car was screaming around the
third turn glued to the line that Rocco was running.
Tagg finished third in the first 20 lapper and has really started the 2015 racing season on a high note.
I interviewed #9ma Brian Tagg in the paddock area and he told me the race car was fully repaired from the transmission problem with no low gear on his late restart on last June 10, 2015 late model race that cost him a chance at a victory. Tagg has won in other divisions in his career and his dad
Tom Tagg was the 1990 Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park SK weekly track champion. Tagg's spotting duties are handled by a much younger Tagg family member, Sharon Tagg Talman.
Tagg's rocket ship was really locked in on the higher groove and his tires held out for the lead by lap 6 and hit his marks and avoided all slower traffic and over driving for his very emotional win in Victory Lane ! Segment II is now complete and a ten minute adjustment period in the center it area before the $1,000.00 10 lap non point sprint.
This scribe believes the SK Modified race at Stafford on Friday night is the most competitive on the eastern seaboard and the late model race at Thompson is my second choice.
