(Stafford Springs, CT)---When the checkered flag is displayed to the Legend Cars field at Stafford Speedway’s season ending NAPA Fall Final Weekend on Sat., Oct. 3rd, it will not only bring to an end the second season of Legend Cars competition, but it will punch a direct ticket to the 2015 Legend Cars Nationals for the lucky feature winner.
The 2015 Legend Cars Asphalt Nationals will be held at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, South Carolina, November 12-14. The 3-day Legend Cars extravaganza will give competitors a final chance to accumulate points for the 2015 season to determine their final position in the INEX National Point Standings. Stafford Speedway drivers are well represented in the National INEX/Legend Cars Points Standings with Mikey Flynn 3rd, Teddy Hodgdon 4th, and Andrew Molleur 8th in the Young Lion national standings; Devin O’Connell is 1st, Joe Graf, Jr. is 2nd, and Noah Korner is 4th in the Semi-Pro national standings; and Dana DiMatteo is 5th, Cory DiMatteo is 6th, and Joey Ternullo, Jr. is 10th in the Pro national standings. O’Connell is also the national points leader for the Semi-Pro division in the Road Course national standings.
The 2015 season has been a dream year for O’Connell in the Legend Cars ranks at Stafford. O’Connell has won a division high 8 feature races this season and last Friday night saw him clinch his first track championship at Stafford with two races remaining. Other Legend Cars feature winners during the 2015 season at Stafford include Dana DiMatteo with 5, his brother Cory DiMatteo with 4, Teddy Hodgdon with 2, and Mikey Flynn with 1. O’Connell has already punched his ticket for the Legend Cars nationals but he will be trying to win the race nonetheless.
“I still want to win the last 2 races so we can get to 10 wins,” said O’Connell. “Tom Fearn kind of ruined my plans to be the driver with the most wins at Stafford this year with the absolute hot streak he’s been on but our goal is to still get to 10 wins. We’ve already got a spot in the A-Main feature for the nationals and I think it’s going to be an exciting race. The Stafford race is the final qualifier event on the schedule along with Elko Speedway, so I think you might see some guys travel to Stafford for the opportunity to win a qualifier. It should be a pretty exciting race.”
“We’ve had some great Legend Cars competition this season,” said David Arute, Legend Cars promoter at Stafford. “It’s going to be exciting to have Stafford Speedway represented in the Legend Cars Nationals. This final race of the year should be our best race of the season with everyone wanting to claim that qualifying spot in the Nationals.”
