Winchester, NH: This past Saturday, the fans of Monadnock Speedway were treated to hot racing action as the speedway’s weekly divisions competed at the high banked ¼ mile along with the Classic Lites and Star Antique Racers. Robbie Bryant claimed the victory for the Classic Lites as seventeen competitors competed for the top honor.
The Young Guns rolled onto the track and had an early battle for the lead between Jaret Curtis and Shelby Avery. Devin Guy sat in third patiently setting up his chance to move into second. On lap five, Guy made his move and took over the top spot as Curtis and Avery continued to compete for second. Chris Sontag, making his first appearance of the season ran fourth followed by Chloe Wright and Kevin Pittsinger. Guy, started to stretch his lead, Avery took over second and the field behind settled in single file. At the checkers, Guy took his second win of the season followed by Avery, Curtis, Sontag and Wright for the top five.
The Mini Stocks put on a race that kept the fans on the edge of their seat. At the green, Ethan Marsh led the field followed by Eric Pomasko, Kevin McKnight, Matt Kimball and Justin Littlewood. On lap three, Pomasko took the lead as Marsh felt the pressure of Kimball on his bumper for second. On lap eight, a caution for newcomer Jeffrey Cournoyer came out as his race machine suffered mechanical problems on the back stretch. On the restart, Pomasko stayed in the top spot and by lap ten a side by side battle developed between Pomasko and Kimball for several laps. Solomon Brow sat in third patiently right behind on their back bumpers as the two up front fought it out. On lap eighteen Brow’s patience payed off as he made a move to the inside of Pomasko for first. Brow started to pull away as Pomasko and Kimball now battled for second. On lap twenty-two, Pomasko bobbled coming out of turn three, Kimball took advantage and moved into second. On the final lap, it was Brow with the win followed by Kimball, Poamsko, Mcknight and Littlewood.
Richard Vincent led out the Thunder Stocks for their twenty-five lap main event. Vincent led the first ten laps with Dan Comeau and Craig Chaffee, a few car lengths behind, fighting for second. James Nowakowski and Joe Zellman rounded the top five. Zellman began to feel the heat as both Paul Smith and Paul Barnard put the pressure on for the fifth spot. Chaffee, who took over second, began to run down the front runner of Vincent and on lap twelve he succeeded making a pass on the inside in turn four. A half a lap later, the caution flew for Vincent and Comeau running in second and third as both of their cars hooked together after battling each other for second. This was a caution that point leader, James Nowakowski needed for his opportunity to battle Chaffee for the top spot. On the restart, Chaffee muscled his way to keep on top as Barnard attempted to hold of Ben Williams for fourth. Williams kept looking to the inside for the pass and was able to make it on lap sixteen. Chaffee had a comfortable lead as fast moving Williams was knocking on the door of Smith for second. At the checkers, it was Chaffee collecting his second win followed by Nowakowski, Smith, Williams and Barnard.
The Super Stocks came out next with Duane Noll and Tyler Lescord setting the pace to the green flag. Noll quickly took the lead as Robert Hagar moved into second by lap two. On lap seven Hagar looked to the inside of Noll but was shut down by Noll several times coming out of turn four. Dennis Stange put the pressure on Lescord for third. Lap thirteen proved to be lucky for Hagar as he went to the inside in turn one taking the lead away from Noll. Stange also made an inside move on Lescord for third bringing with Joel Monahan for fourth. Stange began to hunt down the #2 of Noll as Hagar remained the leader. A few laps later, Stange took over second as Hagar began to work his way through lap traffic. Five laps to go, Stange had a mirror full of the red as Joel Monahan was all over his back bumper for the second spot. With only a few laps to go, the top three carefully worked through the lap traffic with Monahan making the pass on Noll for third. At the wave of the checkers it was Hagar followed by Stange, Monahan, Noll and Tyler Leary.
The final feature of the night rolled onto the track as Ben Byrne and Casey Ouellette brought the field to the green. Brian Robie who sat in the third starting spot quickly moved into the top spot. On lap two, the yellow flew for Keith Carzello, Cameron Sontag and Tyler Jarvenpaa. On the restart, Robie continued to lead the way as Kim Rivet and Nathan Johnson moved into second and third. Trevor Bleau sat in fourth looking for a way around Johnson for third. Robie began to stretch his lead while Bleau made the pass on Johnson and put the pressure on Rivet for second. The top runners began to battle through heavy lap traffic as Johnson and Bill Kimball ran wheel to wheel for fourth with Byrne and Carzello close behind. Less five laps to go, Robie was looking to score his first ever win, as Carzello worked his way around Johnson and challenged Kimball for fourth. On the final lap around turn four it was a moment that Robie will not forget anytime soon as he took the checkers for the first time followed by Bleau, Rivet, Carzello and Kimball.
