Saturday August 6th the New London-Waterford Speedbowl,
Waterford, Ct presented their annual Wings and Wheels special with the
Valenti Modified Racing Series capping off the night with their 100
lap feature.
Thanks to series president, Jack Bateman and the Waterford
Speedbowl all 29 entries started the 100 lap grind.
Polesitter Woody Pitkat, Sturbridge, Ma. and Nick Laydga,
Voluntown, Ct. brought the field to green with Pitkat jumping out to
lead the first 32 laps, until a yellow flag slowed the action. The
restart now had local favorite Keith Rocco, Berlin,Ct. starting
outside Pitkat. As the pack roared down the back stretch, 3rd place
Ted Christopher, Plainville,Ct. got out of shape and a majority of the
field stacked up behind him. Ten cars were eliminated from the event
with various damages.
When the race was restarted a speedy Rocco took over the top spot
making it look like he would run away with the victory, but Richard
Savary, Canton,Ma. and Jon McKennedy, Chelmsford,Ma. had other ideas
and both shot by a fading Rocco on a lap 69 restart.
Savary's lead would be short lived as McKennedy, driving the
Christopher's Towing sponsored #29, slipped by Savary on lap 73 and
lead the remainder of the event, winning his 5th MRS race this season.
This victory placed him second on the all time MRS win list with 20 victories.

to finish 4th, and Dave Ethridge, Portland,Ct continues to impress while
finishing 5th.
Chris Pasteryak, Donnie Lashua, Geoff Gernhard who was the hard charger
gaining 16 positions to finish 8th, Branden Dion and Keith Rocco
rounded out the top 10.
