NEMA & NEMA Lite Results From Lee USA 7-20-15

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

  Lee USA Speedway, Lee, NH.
Danny Cugini of Marshfield, MA only took three laps to overhaul race leader Jim Chambers of Atkinson, NH and pull out to a straightaway lead before P.J. Stergios spun out of third place to create the first caution flag on lap 21 of the 25 lap feature.
Cugini in the stealth/focus – Worldwide Enterprise number 51 picked up right where he'd left off and powered the way to the NEMA Lites victory followed by Chambers in his beast/focus – Michael Chambers auctioneers number 21.
If there was a hard charger award it would have to go to Stergios. His self-inflicted spin on lap 21 appeared as if he would finish towards the back, but he ran the outside groove and thrilled the fans driving his family owned beast chassis number 11 back to third place, finishing behind Cugini and Chambers.
P.J.Stergios and Dan Cugini were heat winners.
Cugini said, "car was awesome the whole race, Chris DeRosier put a great car under me, I couldn't ask for better crew chief. Once we got outfront I just hit my marks and tried to stay consistent. I'm starting to learn traffic and I'm getting better at it."

In the NEMA midget portion of the event Doug Cleveland of the Sudbury, MA and Paul Scally of Raynham, MA. paced the field to green with Cleveland's mount losing power, creating a scramble throughout the pack causing the first of three yellow flags for the event.
On the restart Avery Stoehr of Lakeville, MA in the Motor Cars International number 15a rocketed away with the lead. Stoehr would continue at the point through two more caution periods for minor spins.
Meanwhile, the 2014 NEMA champion, Randy Cabral of Plymouth, MA in the K&N number 47, was on a mission coming from deep in the field to find himself forth on a lap five restart, then overhauling Jim Chambers and Seth Carlson of Brimfield, MA to find himself chasing race leader Stoehr, but just didn't have enough to mount a challenge for the lead.
In the closing laps Carlson used and outside move to power by Chambers to finish third while Chambers and John Zych Jr. rounded out the top five.
Seth Carlson and Dan Cugini were heat winners.
"I knew we had a pretty good car, Stoehr said, I was just hoping to keep the tires on it and keep it going that good. You always get a little nervous in a lapped traffic, but that worked out for us today"
