Scott Bruneau Sr. Spanks the Street Stock field at Seekonk Speedway

Posted By Wayne G. Barber

Scott Bruneau Sr. had a mathematical chance to overtake Paul Lallier for the championship as did Tyler Lallier. Bruneau did everything possible to capture the crown, including winning the year-ending feature but the elder Lallier drove to a fifth place finish, putting the question out of reach to his pursuers to come home with his second Street Stock championship.
Bruneau battled through an often rowdy, often hostile field before coming to the front with four laps remaining. Coming off a restart, he took the lead over Steve Axon and held him off for a half-second margin of victory. Chris Rioux chased him across the line, followed by Lallier and the surging Corey Fanning who had been running eleventh with four laps to go.
Craig Pianka took the lead off the pole as Anthony Kohler was edged out of second by Adam Dion. Axon moved forward from his fifth place start to take Kohler out of third going into lap four. Lallier popped into fifth for a lap but Fanning moved past him and Mike Mitchell fell in behind in seventh place.
Thomas Adams spun in turn four and created a miracle to keep his spinning car off the outside wall. This brought a lap seven restart with Adam Dion and Pianka facing off. Dion got out by a nose but they were door-to-door at the flag stand. Dion finally took the front in turn four. Fanning went to third. Ray Lovelace, Tyler Lallier and Axon got into a three-wide and Axon went around starting a huge scramble to avoid. Vinny Pangelinan was collected and ended his night in the pits. Ray Negley came away with his door dented in. Joe Melberg visited the pits and returned.
Pianka nosed away from Dion on the green but again they went door to door as Dion heated it up. Mitchell, Kohler and Rioux then went three wide over fourth. Mitchell came out in third, behind Dion. Kohler was fifth, behind Pianka. Tyler then got past Kohler into fifth and Lovelace took sixth. But Melberg spun out of turn two to bring the caution. He was pushed to the pits but returned for the restart.
Fanning and Mitchell battled for the front on the green, going wheel-to-wheel until Fanning nosed out of turn three. But Mitchell came back in turn four to get a fender ahead. He had a half car lead in turn  thirteen when Lovelace spun in turn four.
Mitchell and Fanning again challenged for the lead but Adams spun in turn four and they lined up again. It took two attempts to resume lap fifteen, and Tony Oliviera, Negley and Ed Flanagan, Jr. were lost for the evening. Mitchell assumed the lead over Fanning while Pianka and Tyler battled over third. Dion was working under Paul for fifth.
Mitchell had a one car lead on lap 19 followed by Fanning, Pianka, the resurgent Bruneau, while Dion was under Tyler. Tyler got into Dion who got sideways and brought the caution. Dion made for the pits while Tyler went to the rear for the assist. This time Mitchell got out by a nose on lap 20 and had a solid lead one lap later. Fanning nosed under and made contact, sending Mitchell around. Fanning was called for the assist.
Bruneau and Pianka lined up on the front. Bruneau grabbed the front with a surge out of the box. Axon jumped past Pianka into second. Rioux and Paul Lallier followed with a 3-wide cropping up between Jeremy Walker, Lovelace and Pianka. It stayed three wide into the following lap when Adams spun in turn two.
Axon and Bruneau seasawed the lead for a lap until Walker and Ryan Flood got together, their body metal locking them up. It took several minutes to free them and reset the field.
The lap 23 restart saw Axon nose out and Bruneau come back and they hack sawed back and forth before Bruneau could get to the lead and finally lead Axon across the stripe. Paul Lallier brushed the front stretch wall going under the white flag but kept it running and straight.
Chris Rioux finished third, ahead of Lovelace and Lallier. Sixth went to Fanning, followed by Tyler Lallier, Dion, Melberg, Mitchell and Walker.Source: Seekonk Speedway Media Press Release Dana Rowe
