Monadnock Speedway Results: Johnson, Stange Celebrate Second Win

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

Winchester, NH: This past Saturday, Monadnock hosted their Christmas in July where both fans and competitors graciously donated unwrapped toys to be donated to local charities so many of the area families, struggling financially, can make Christmas morning a little more special for their children.
The racing action did not disappoint the fans as they saw familiar faces in victory lane along with some new ones.  The Northeast Street Stock Tour made one of their two visits to the ¼ mile high banked track with Joe Arena taking the checkers.   A few of Monadnock Speedway Thunders Stocks came out to represent the track competing in the Northeast East Street Stock Tour, Scott Vien came in sixth, Ed Lofland finished eighth and Jason Kozacka settled for tenth.
The Young Guns started the evening’s events with Devin Guy setting the pace.  The field was small due to three competitors of Chloe Wright, Alex Barden and Colby Lambert not making the feature because of mechanical issues.  Guy led the field from green to checker despite many attempts from Mariah Stebbins vying for the top spot. At the checkers it was Guy celebrating his first win followed by Stebbins and Kevin Pittsinger.
The Lightning Stocks zoomed out with Tim Paquette and Dan Starkweather in the top row to lead the field to the green.  Paquette quickly took the lead as Justin Littlewood moved into second.  By lap five, Louis Maher led the field as the battle for second was between Paquette and Littlewood. Pat Houle, who has won seven features in row moved into fourth. Houle put the pressure on Littlewood and took over the third making a pass on the outside. On lap fourteen a caution flew for Hillary Renaud.  Maher leading the race now was under pressure for the top spot on the restart.  Maher, on the restart, held the number one spot as Paquette tried everything to shut down Houle for second.  At the end, it was Maher claiming his first victory of the season followed by Houle, Paquette, Littlewood and Eric Silvernale.
The Mini Stocks rolled onto the track as Rookie Alex Pearl and Kevin McKnight came around turn four to take the green. Pearl claimed the number one position as Eric Pomasko took over second.  McKnight felt the pressure from Solomon Brow for third.  An early caution came out on lap three when Pomasko came down on Brow, who was underneath him, making the attempt for second in turn three resulting in Pomasko to spin.   On the restart, Pearl lost the lead to Brow as Matt Kimball followed to settle in second.  Brow began to develop a good lead as Kimball set his sights on chasing down the leader.   Pomasko made ground to catch the top five and started a battle with McKnight for third. With twenty-five laps in the book, Brow captured his fourth win of the season followed by Kimball, Pomasko, McKnight and Pearl.
Tyler Lescord and Duane Noll led the Super Stock field to the green for their twenty-five lap feature.  Lescord took control of the field from the start as Noll battled for second with Dennis Stange.  The top five ran tight as Littlewood moved into third with Tyler Leary right on his back bumper for fourth.  On lap eleven, the 2015 champion of Stange, took the lead as Lescord felt the pressure from Leary for second.  Joel Monahan made the pass on Littlewood for third.  Stange continued to lead as Leary looked for opportunity to make the pass for the lead while holding off a very fast moving Monahan.  Five laps to go, the top five began to weave through lap traffic.  At the checkers it was Stange collecting the victory followed by Leary, Monahan, Littlewood and Lescord.
The final event of the night was the Sportsman Modified division as Brian Robie set the pace for eighteen car field. As the green flag flew Eric Leclair who started in second position muscled his way to the top spot leaving Robie to hold off Kim Rivet for second.   With only five laps in the books, Rivet took over second as Geoff Rollins and Nathan Johnson followed to take over third and fourth. On lap thirteen, Rivet took the lead from Leclair as Johnson started a run on Leclair successfully taking over second two laps later. Rivet began to see a rear view mirror full of Johnson as they both had to maneuver around lap cars.  By lap eighteen, Johnson was the new leader as Rollins began to feel the pressure from Keith Carzello for third.  The battle for third between the two continued to the final lap as Nathan Johnson captured his second win followed by Rivet, Rollins, Carzello and Cameron Sontag.
