In the Mini Stocks reigning champion Dave Trudeau celebrated his fourth victory of the season in his mission to defend his 2015 series title, but it was not an easy trip to victory lane. Trudeau started the event on a low note after mechanical issues forced him to pit and restart in the back of the field after a lap one caution. Trudeau would overcome adversity, and a significant lead by Christopher Viens, to take the win and return to victory lane in Thompson.
“I have no idea how I got back up there. I was fast. I’ve got an awesome crew. I can’t thank everyone enough,” Trudeau said.
The event was made even more special as it also marked the debut race for Trudeau’s son, Dave Trudeau, Jr., in the Mini Stock Series. Trudeau, Jr. sprinted to victory lane after the conclusion of the event to embrace his dad and celebrate possibly the most unpredictable victory of the evening.
The championship battle between Trudeau and Wayne Burroughs Jr.( 2015 New London Waterford Speedbowl Champion) will probably be decided at the World Series. Note: Long time Thompson driver Roger Ducharme #34 has found a fountain of youth and is quietly having a very strong 2016 season and is headed for a top 5 final finish.
